Labeled as an Imperial Black Rye Ale, so I called it a rye...

Pours mahogany with 3 fingers of rocky, tan head. Great lacing & very good head retention

S: Peppery rye, hints of roastyness that really develop as this warms. Also some brown bread

T: Follows the nose, a bit of carob, roastyness is there in spades up front, along with dryness. More roasted malt as this warms & touch of pumpernickel & pineyness & a trace of grapefruit & plenty of peppery spice bite. Finishes with a ton of roastyness, rye spiceyness

MF: Fairly chewy, firm carbonation, nicely balanced for the style

A nice take on the style that delivers on rye, roastyness & hop bitterness. So far, I haven't had a bad beer from these guys & I like/love all their hoppy offerings

A- Deep, rich brown that not quite black. Fluffy khaki head that does a great job of coating the sides of the glass.

S- Extremely raw coffee bean is the initial aroma. Earthy hop character and spice of the rye also shows up. A bit muddled with the dirt and bark notes.

T- A nice step up from the aroma IMO. Many rye beers fail to highlight the rye, but this one certainly lets the rye do the talking (or boxing, in this case). Tons of roasted goodness. Love the cracked pepper-like spice. Some cocoa, lots of coffee astringency, and a strong bitter hop finish. So aggressive in nature.

M- Mid body bordering on full. Dry as can be from the strong, bitter notes. Creamy on the tongue.

O- unique no doubt. Aggressive and quite enjoyable. This brewery isn't at all scared to push the envelope and live on the edge. This thing is earthy as hell and I like it. Well done. I haven't had 12th round yet, but I will certainly seek it out.

Received as an extra in a trade

A - Poured into a Kate the Great tulip a nice dark brown nearly black with a big three finger finger mocha head that left very sudsy lacing.

S - Aromas of spicy aggressive rye, darker malts, little char. Nice rye notes

T - Taste is spicy rye, aggressive hop bitterness, grapefruit rind, chocolate, very nice spice notes.

M - Mouthfeel is lightly carbonated, crisp, alcohol hidden very well.

O - Overall this beer was tasty, a pleasant surprise from Oklahoma. Very nice rye spice notes.

Oh man. This beer is a knockout.

A- pours black as night. Slow to form carbonation, like the bubbles are coming up from the depths unknown, and build into a 2-3finger head. Nice!

S- smells of slight roast and chocolates with fresh hops and maple syrup. Pretty different and extremely pleasurable.

T- roast, chocolate, dark spices, rye that are completely balanced by fresh, wet, sapp, and piney hops. The spicy rye and hops play so well together here.

M- pretty thick and heavy body for the style. Slight chewyness. Velvety texture and carbonation though.

O- boom! Great stuff. A complete surprise and it was wonderful. I will be drinking many more.

A: Huge dark tan head. Great retention & lacing. Black body.

S: Somewhat muted aroma of roasted malts, light chocolate, and some rye spice.

T: Interesting mix of roasted dark malts, spice, and herbal hops. Touch of chocolate. Pretty tasty, but finishes a little off – vegetal almost. In the 2nd half of the bottle, that vegetal taste all but disappeared – replaced w/ citric hops that meshed much better w/ the roast & light rye spice.

M: Medium+ body. Fairly light, fine carbonation.

O: I love rye IPAs and black IPAs, so expectations were high. Maybe too high, as the hops didn't quite take me where I wanted to go. Worth a try, but it doesn't quite measure up to their other offerings.
