Can generously given to me at the end of a bottle share in chicago about 2 weeks ago. Enjoyed from a TB batch 002 snifter.

a - brew poured black as night with a massive mocha tan foamy head that hung out for a while and coated the glass with lacing as it dissipated.

s - nose is hoppy milk stout. Little grainy.

t - big roast subtle hop on the finish. Chocolate and grain the middle. Kind of meh, but the hop on the finish saves it.

m - soft and easy drinking. Kind of milk stouty.

o - overall far from a bad beer, but not a memorable stout. Very down the middle and good. Sadly there are a slew of great stouts that outshine this beer. This is the kind of beer that you would drink all the time if it was a local on draft all around town, but wouldn't make a special trip to get a taste.

Poured from a 16 oz can into a pub glass. Received in a trade from OK.

A - Half a finger of light tan head with very short retention. Pours a very dark brown/black and is basically opaque. Little to no lacing.

S - Dark roasted malts. A hint of coffee.

T - Malty flavor with bitterness coming from both coffee and chocolate.

M - Nice and thick up front with lots of carbonation and a dry finish.

O - At 8% and with plenty of body and carbonation it drinks like an imperial stout. Quite delicious.

I got this beer as an extra in a trade. I will say it is a great beer and am glad I got to experience it. I was really surprised by the aroma coming off of this. A lot of pine smells, very surprising for the style, but very good. For the ABV it drinks remarkably smooth. Have to be careful with this one. A nice roasty taste, very mild, easy drinking stout. Would definitely like to get my hands on a few more cans!

Pours black. Creamy tan head with great retention and lacing.

Getting some hops on the nose. Faint roast.

Taste is roast with moderate piney hop bitterness. Nice and pretty enjoyable. Perhaps not as intense as I would expect for 8%. But really like the earthy Pitney hop notes.

Full mouthfeel. Moderate carb.

Nice very easy drinking stout.

Can poured into this awesome Sexual Chocolate glass.

A- Pours pitch black with a one finger coco powder head. Holds well, looks good.

S- Faint nose. Hops, roasted malt, dark fruit and some smoke.

T- Bitter hops, roasted coffee, malt, and again a little smoke.

M- Active carbonation, smooth, a little thin, alcohol is hidden well.

O- Not a bad stout. A little thin and I would say it is on the boundary of a hoppy black ale. I usually like my stouts to be a little more rich.

thanks to okbeerlover for the trade. 16oz. can poured into a dimpled Guinness mug

A: Very dark brown in color, totally opaque. Aggressive pour yields a 1/2-inch of bubbly, foamy, mocha-colored head. Leaves rings of sticky lacing, surprisingly for a low-hop brew.

S: Fairly weak nose; what's there is slightly sweet, somewhat chocolatey with toasted grains.

T/M: Superb espresso-like quality, with burnt toast and a rich baking chocolate finish. Good bitterness from the roasted characteristics. A bit thin in body but typical of the style. Creaminess makes up for it. This would be sublime on nitro.

O: On the whole I enjoyed this very much and if it were readily available to me would buy a few times a year. Solid.

edit: to add that I had no idea this was 8% ABV - I truly thought this was a "normal" 5.5-6% stout. Wow, alcohol is completely hidden.

Pours an effervescent ebony with 2+ fingers of mocha colored head. Some floaties, great lacing & nice head retention.

S: Carob, roastyness & a bit of raisin

T: Roastyness, dryness, a touch of carob & piney hops up front. More roastyness as this warms, plus dryness, faint carob & bit of pumpernickel & licorice. Finishes dry, roasty, with some Baker's chocolate & a touch of charred grain

MF: Medium bodied, smooth carbonation, nice balance

Drinks very easy, hides the ABV well. I find the floaties a bit off-putting

16oz can served in a Prairie teku

A - Pours black as night with a frothy tan head, excellent lacing patterns with ok retention.

S - Nice roasted malts with solid hop aroma, hop oils, cold coffee, earthy.

T - Roasted barley, coffee, some anise, a solid backing of green and citrus hops bring an adjoining bitterness to the roast. Has some salty characters, very savory with smoke and peat moss in the mix. Finishes with a dry roasty bitterness.

M - Silky feel, medium to full body with adequate carbonation, dry roast finish.

A solid stout. Bold flavors with a very nice dry-hopped aroma. This rivals Chocs Winter stout, which i hold in high regard. I'm digging the beers I've had from this brewery. Well done Roughtail!

A: 1/2” tan head with good retention. Black body.

S: Some roasted malt & coffee. Plenty of earthy hops.

T: The aroma is fine, but it tastes quite a bit better than it smells. Aggressive earthy & citrusy hops. Nice bitterness. Plenty of roast to match. Some chocolate. Some coffee.

M: Medium+ body. Soft carbonation. Smooth.

O: An aggressive, hoppy stout – just as advertised. Very well done.
