look: 4.5 | smell: 4 | taste: 4.25 | feel: 4.25 | overall: 4.25

Pours an effervescent honey color with a thumb of pearl white head. Good head retention & stellar lacing

S: Pineyness, breadyness & a little grapefruit, also pineapple once warm

T: Follows the nose, some herbal & pineapple hoppyness as well. Much pineyness & grapefruit pith as this warms, plus herbal & woody hops, with some passion fruit & pineapple & underlying breadyness. Finishes with herbal & leafy hops, pineapple, breadyness & grapefruit & woody bitterness & dryness

MF: Slightly chewy, but firm carbonation; super balance

Great drinkability, a hophead's delight, these guys are impressing me a ton...

Reviewed from notes from 4/25/14

A- Pours a mostly clear straw color with some orange hues. A two finger head of tight white bubbles recedes slowly leaving a ton of sticky lacing!

S- Pungent hop aromas that are mostly dank, earthy, and sweet. Earthy wet grass, pine, over-ripe mango, and some garlic like hop aromas. A grainy malt backbone with a good bit of caramel rounds this out.

T- The taste follows the aroma almost to a T. There's lots of dank, earthy, wet grass hop flavors. There's a good deal of sweetness from the hops and the caramel malt. A good deal of garlic/onion-grass flavor. Very tasty but slightly astringent. Quite aggressive and bitter.

M- The mouth feel is medium to thick with a bit of prickly carbonation. Sticky and resionous with a decent amount of booze presence.

O- A really good DIPA that with a few tweaks could be truly outstanding.

A- Pours a deep golden color with a fluffy white head. Slight haze. Decent lacing.

S- Juicy grapefruit and pineapple. Hops all the way. Very little malt to match up to it. Pale malts and spice.

T- Very aggressive. Hops abound with Simcoe and Centennial. Not much balance to speak of. It's a straight up hop bomb that makes my mouth cringe at times. A dry, lingering astringency.

M- Mid to full, sticky, and a little hot at times.

O- Not my favorite from Roughtail. I really love what they have going on, but this one was a little too dimensional for me. The hop profile is robust, so I can understand some people's love for it, but just not for me.

$9 for a 22 oz bottle

1st anniversary bottled on April Fools 2014
Bomber-> Smokestack Tulip

A- My favorite look to a IIPA...Pale Copper, Crystal Clear, Nice Ivory Head...9/10 of the fermentable sugars are US Two Row & it shows.

S- Pine, Floral, Citrus zest to the max.
Yeast used yields stone fruit & toffee characteristics.
Tropical fruit arises as it warms; intense lilikoi & papaya.

T- Pine quickly gives way to tropical fruit juices & hefty citrus juices..English ale yeast allows for a dry finish with hint of apricot on the back end. Tropical fruit is more dominant as things warm up. The touch of crystal malt really keeps things from getting out of balance.

M- Sappy, Resinous, & zesty... The use of cane sugar allows a superfluous mouthful that makes one forget that you're drinking an Imperial IPA. Never feels chalky.

Rough tail did great here...A straight up Oklahoma Double IPA.
Everything they did here was on point: Pale Malt bill, Cane Sugar, West Coast Bittering with an even more adventurous flame out bill. The over the top tropical dry hop works wonders with the dried fruit quality of the English ale yeast. Recommended over & over.

Bottle shared at the Swamp Head Batch 600 release. Pours dark yellow pee color with a small creamy white head. Aroma of stale hops, lots of caramel malts, lemon peel. Smells like a barleywine to me. Flavor follows with some lemon, stale hops, and big bready malts. This is all barleywine at this point, so I assume it’s been sitting around a while. Medium plus body with medium carbonation. Only OK, but knowingly had this past its prime. Not bad.

A: 1 finger off-white head with god retention, leaving chunks of lacing along the glass. Hazed deep golden body.

S: All hop nose. Grapefruit & pineapple mostly with a touch of flowers. Pine joining the party as it warms. Excellent aroma. Not weak, but I wish it was stronger.

T: A hop assault at first. Bitter grapefruit, a little pine, and a touch of tropical fruit. There's plenty of candy-like malt to follow. I'm not sure balance is the right word, as it's still aggressive & somewhat astringent – yet you'll notice the sweet malt too.

M: Medium-full body. Soft carbonation. Smooth until a slight alcohol bite at the finish (not to mention the wonderful hop oil coating, making the citrus last).

O: The alcohol is noticeable, but it stays in the background – just there to remind you to take this one slowly. Darn fine offering – one that lives up to the promise on the bottle: aggressive, flavor forward.

22oz served in a Prairie teku

A - Slightly hazed amber color with a thick frothy head. Minimal lacing with good retention.

S - A big bouquet of citrus, grapefruit, tangerine, orange, sweet caramel malts, floral potpourri

T - Bright fleshy grapefruit dominates upfront, candied pale malts, lots of star fruit and over ripened mango, pine needles come out as it warms. A sugar cookie sweetness mixes with the tropical fruit created a light and bright sweetness. Bitterness hits mid palate and continues through the finish adding nice balance to the sweetness. Finishes with a bitter tropical sweetness.

M - Medium full bodied, slightly syrupy, low to medium carbonation,

Bright, sweet, and hoppy. The hops bring bright citrus and tropical flavors with a sweet honey pale malt lying underneath. A nice peppery bitterness counteracts the sweetness and rounds this out very well.
