Billowy tan head atop a bright reddish-orange beer. Has a potent hop and caramel aroma without nuance. Taste is fruit-forward with a bitter middle that never quite takes off. Medium in body.
There are too many good IPA's out there to spend too much time with this one.

Appearance- Dark amber, slightly orange and brown. Two inch head with plenty of lacing produced.

Aroma-Big notes of pine and citrus at first along with some caramel sweetness.

Taste- Aroma pretty indicative of whats to come with huge pine and citrus flavors and surprisingly big caramel malt backbone. Well balanced, but the malt takes away from the initial hop punch.

Feel- Malt backbone gives this a smooth and creamy feel that's very pleasant.

Overall- Well balanced for the most part, but the malt is tad overdone. Still, this is a very good ipa and on target for their west coast style goal. Definitely a must try for those in OKC or passing through. Also, if there was an single ipa version of sixpoint resin, this would be it.

Poured from the can into a Deschutes teku, since I have no Roughtail glassware.

Darker amber in color, some haze, topped with a foamy cap of off-white head, that retained as a ringlet, and laced the glass nicely. In the nose, pine resin and fairly dominant bready malts. The taste was pretty malty as well, not really a "malt bomb," but definitely more malt-dominant than an IPA should be; caramelized sugar with some resinous hop notes in the background. Medium body, sticky mouthfeel. While not an ideal IPA (or even an IPA at all), it definitely wasn't undrinkable. I just ignored labels/styles and pretended it was a lightly hopped brown ale.

The mighty JenRay sent this to me and I think that it may represent my first CANned beer from the Sooner State! The CANQuest is a mighty thing and must be CANstantly appeased with new offerings.

From the CAN: "(India Pale Ales, or IPA's) are known for a hop, or hoppy flavor and [CAN] be very bitter on the palate."; "Maltiness 7.5, Bitterness 15, Aroma 18 Sweetness 6.5 Aggressiveness 18+ [all shown as a bar graph]"; "Fine Ales from Oklahoma Roughtail Brewing Co.Est. 2012"; "Aggressive flavor forward."; "Roughtail IPA is brewed to kick your taste buds in the ass and leave your palate begging for mercy. Pine, resin, and citrus aromas leap out of the glass. The extreme bitterness hits next, gives you what you desire. The finish is dry, clean, and leaves you wanting more. We put a crazy amount of hops into this beer just for you, fellow hop heads. Enjoy."; "Food pairings: Cuisine Strong Spicy Food Cheese Gorgonzola or Cambozola Meat Smoked Beef Brisket, Chicken-Fried Steak Dessert Caramel Apple Tart, Ginger Spice Cake, Persimmon Rice Pudding"; "Tony Tielli/Brewmaster".

It came in a tallboy CAN, so an inverted Glug following the Crack! was out of the question. Even so, I still managed to create a pseudo-cascade, settling into two fingers of dense, tawny head with great retention. Color was an oh-so-slightly-hazy coppery-amber (SRM = > 9, < 13). The nose reeked of pine resin. Whatta we? Gettin' ready to play baseball?!? Actually, I'm down with it as I like hops. This smelled like it could be air freshener in my house. The taste was not quite up to billing, but I really liked the way the caramel malt intermingled with the pine hops to produce a CANdy-like flavor that I would really like to try: hop-flavored caramels. Hershey just released the Lancaster caramel line, so maybe I'll suggest just such a flavor to them. Finish was semi-dry, but that was good as I had just CANsumed an unbalanced AIPA so I was not really in the mood to tackle another one. Not bad and frankly, kind of unexpected.

Pours to a generous white bubbly head and good lacing. Copper color and some floaters. Aroma is piney, citrusy PNW hops and pale malt. Flavor is a muted American IPA flavor with some malt backbone and balance. Not what most people think of as a good AIPA, but I really like it.
