Massive thank you to the fine OK gentleman who tossed this my way at the end of a bottleshare in chicago the other day. Enjoyed from a prairie teku. Not sure of the age of the can, no easy to decode date on the can, but i imagine it to be fresh.

Pours a deep mahogany almost amber orange with a nice frothy ipa head and great lacing. Nose is resinous and dank. More pine cone than citric. Taste is fairly malty and earthy, nice bite. Thick rich and chewy. Definitely an ipa but on the pine side of the spectrum.

Pours to a generous white bubbly head and good lacing. Copper color and some floaters. Aroma is piney, citrusy PNW hops and pale malt. Flavor is a muted American IPA flavor with some malt backbone and balance. Not what most people think of as a good AIPA, but I really like it.

Big thanks to my buddy Travis for getting this out to me.

A: Pours a murky, almost muddy amber. Finger of offwhite head. Very tight bubbles. Carbonation is hard to detect due to the murkiness.

S: Caramel toffee sweetness from the malt. Hoppiness is fairly dank, with lots of orange coming through.

T: Big grain notes run through. Malt is present, but what follows is very strange. The hops in the smell are almost completely muted. Muddled, earthy. Hint of citrus on the back end. Bitterness in the finish. Has a strange savory aspect that I can't quite put my hands on. Not the onion/garlic from summit. The flavors are damp and muted.

M: Medium bodied. Slightly creamy. A pleasing mouthfeel, to say the least.

O: This is a pedestrian take on the style. Their is a distinct lack of bright, clean or well integrated hoppy flavor. For a beer that distinctly calls itself "aggressive", the flavors are fairly bland.

my first beer from rough tail is a bit of an oddity, a solid ipa, dank and west coast, but exhibiting some weirdness. the pour is nice at first glance, orange colored with some haze and a milky white head with nice retention. at close inspection though, i see an absolute ton of fish food sediment, almost looks more like undissolved hop pellets than yeast bits, they accumulate at the bottom of the glass in a pretty yucky way, especially towards the bottom of the can. nose is bitter and oily thirst quenching hops above a medium pale malt body, sticky, but from hops not grain. bitterness dominates the finish. i am not it love with the packaging of this beer, a lot of gimmicky pseudo-information, but the beer inside tastes pretty good. if the appearance wasn't so nasty, this might do a little better. enough to keep me interested in this brewery, but not my favorite as ipas go.

The beer comes in a deep blood orange color with with a decent amount of floaties (I suspect this can is a bit old). Beautiful white head with tons of lacing.

The aroma has juicy orange, as well as a bright green pine and resin. Quite bright and hoppy with some candy sweetness as well.

The flavor follows with mostly green pine, grassiness, grapefruit. Some bready malt in there without much sweetness. The finish is of sweet grapefruit. The finish is quite dry of bitter grapefruit pith and green grass. A generally light and drawn out bitterness until the finish, where is lots of drying with a decent bitterness.

A very easy drinking and hoppy IPA. I’d imagine this beer was better extremely fresh, but plesantly surprised by this extra. Not an in your face IPA, but an very sessionable in flavor beer that definitely matches with food.
