Poured into a pint glass a cloudy orange with a foamy head. Lots of lacing. Smells of citrus with a hint of hops. Grapefruit and pine hit the tongue first with a bit of a bitter finish. Very juicy. Medium mouth that's a bit oily. Super good DIPA.

Appearance- Amber in color with a slight golden hue. Pours a one finger foamy white head which dissipates pretty quickly. Lots of lacing present as the beer goes down.

Aroma- Massive hop aroma on this with pungent grapefruit, citrus, and garlic/onion.

Taste- First sip and flavor matches the intensity of nose. Big juicy citrus upfront with a little caramel malt sweetness, but after that the flavor is pungent as can be. Grapefruit and garlic/onions flavors take over in the back end of the palate, while coating the mouth with tons of hop oil. A nice bready malt kicks in towards the end and helps out dry out the finish as well.

Mouthfeel- Definitely a big malt bill on this, but a dry finish cleans the palate of the malt and the hop oils. Very drinkable at 10 percent and not overly sweet.

Overall- Roughtail is easily one top three brewers in the state and this is just another reason why. Hoptometrist strikes a great balance between pungent hops and caramel/bready malt sweetness. The malt can be a tad too sweet at times, especially as it warms, which is really the only thing keeping this from a higher score. Regardless of the minor complaint, this is a great dipa and hopefully it sees more consistent production.

This is listed at 100 IBUs, just released 3 days ago!

25 oz bottle pours an effervescent caramel with 1 finger of ivory colored head. Viscious, keeps effervescent look, decent head retention & faint lacing

S: Pineapple, doughy, cakey, grapefruit; fades a touch at the end, a bit of boozeyness

T: Follows the nose, much tropical fruit up front, plus a little bit of pine & grapefruit. Much pineapple & grapefruit as this warms, more doughyness, pine & even a touch of aspirin. Finishes with a grapefruit assault plus aspirin, pine & pineapple & even a touch of pear & orange rind

MF: Chewy, subtle carbonation, very hop forward, but loads of malt& tropical fruits to balance it out fairly well. Boozy warmth presence

This beer punches its weight to be sure. Hopheads should love this. I wanted a little more balance, like it & would buy it again. In a rough style to make an impression, there are tons of great DIPAs out there. Only tried 2 of their brews, so far I am thrilled with these guys

Mouthwatering citrus nose with a dank, hoppy body. Juicy hops fall oily and dense on the palate, a tribute to flavor (pineapple, blood orange, pine resin) over bitterness, which makes possible some superbly balanced drinking. The malt backbone remains just that, a backbone, providing toasted bread crust and brown sugar flavors that support - but never overtake - the hop character. The way the two opposing flavor ranges contrast each other is something I really enjoy in this style, and that tasty battle is captured perfectly in this beer (WITHOUT a noticeable shift in balance toward either end). Finishes slightly pepppery, leaving hops on your breath for a moment or two, teasing the next drink. Alcohol is well-hidden.

One of my favorite DIPAs of late - as close as I've come to an Oklahoma Hopslam. Cheers!

Look - great lacing with decent head and a golden color
Smell - very citrus hop smell
Taste - bitter and very floral with some citrus. Hops are different and I'm not sure what's so different about them.
Feel - Very creamy smooth beer. Medium body and carbonation.

A- Deep gold near amber in color. Hazy to opaque. Big off white head of about 2 fingers. Lacing that holds on to the side of the glass for dear life and retention that is not to be out done.

S- Aroma is a tribute to the cone shaped Humulus Lupulus. Dank hop oils with powerful citrus of grapefruit, orange zest/rind and tropical flavors of pineapple and mango. Touch of medicinal like pine.

T- Hop forward as nose indicates. All the hop character smelled with an additional acidic bite on the back end. Dry, cracker-like malt makes its way through just to keep it from going astringent.

M- Mid body, dry finish. Touch of alcohol present leads to a slight boozy warmth.

O- Just a very well done IIPA. A pleasant surprise. Not sweet or balanced as some other IIPAs tend to be, but this one is able to highlight the hops without generating an off-putting amount of bitterness.
