Touted as a west coast IPA. Has an American hop presence, but either the malt or water muddles it a bit and comes off as somewhat more English IPA in malt character. Decent beer, preferred their Citra session beer,

Gold draft (4) pour at the brewery; white head; good cap and full lacing; excellent clarity. Grapefruit nose. Flavors of bitter grapefruit and piney hops. Moderate carbonation and medium lite mouthfeel; slightly resinous. Overall, easy drinking take on the west coast style with a grapefruit rind linger.

On tap at the brewpub (Black Sheep) in Charleston, WV. Nice vibrant golden in color with about 1 finger of snow white foam. Pleasant aroma, mainly floral with some pine and juicy fruit in there. Great balance, on the taste, of hops/pine and fruit. This one's definitely more pine-forward but it's crafted very well. Surprisingly easy drinking for 85 IBU's. Nothing really stood out to me, aside from the awesome drinkability. A good beer for sure.

Charleston Brewing Company - The Raj IPA. 7.1% ABV. Served in a stout glass on tap at Black Sheep Burrito & Brews in Charleston, WV.
Look: Vibrant gold body, arriving with fair half finger of white bubbly foam.
Smell: Some light aroma of hops, but immediately followed by juicy citrus and tropical fruits. Has some minor aromas of earthy pine, but mostly fruits.
Feel: Thin and very light, with good carbonation. Smooth and easy to drink.
Taste: This seems more fruit forward than resiny/pine. Initial taste is of juicy citrus and tropical fruits, with some hop bitterness surfacing near the back end. From there into the aftertaste, some of that resiny pine taste mixes with the hops, making it bitter, but not overpowering.
Overall: IPAs are not usually my norm when it comes to beers, but since this is CBC's most popular brew, trying it was a must. I prefer the fruitier IPAs, so I liked this pretty well. Has a nice fruit aspect to it, but nicely balanced by the pine and hops, giving it a nice finish.
