Our first sour that was originally brewed in collaboration with our friends at the Bellingham Homebrewers Guild is back just in time for summer! This refreshing wheat beer is brewed to style, which dates back to the Middle Ages and is often referred to as "The People’s Champagne". The tartness of this beer will bring out hints of lemon, while the generous amount of wheat will round out the body lending a remarkable similarity to lemonade. Enjoy as is or add a shot of Raspberry syrup for a twist!

Appearance is extremely pale, nearly white brew with plenth of foam. Llight vinegar nose. Body is also extremely light with a big fizz. The distinct lemony flavor is rather nice. Overall, this is plenty sour but not too vinegary and perfectly drinkable. On tap at Anelia's restaurant in La Conner.

there is no way this doesnt have lemon in it right? i mean the name suggests it, and certainly drinking it last night had me puckering up like concentrated lemon juice, but reading the description below here, no mention is made of fruit added. i would think it has to be, but i could be wrong. if this is all from the lacto souring, well, bravo! its extremely clean, high acidity and piquant without having any harshness on the palate or in the belly, which is odd for me with beer i perceive to be this sour. there is obvious lemon rind and juice character to this in my mind, impressive if its all from the front end souring! dry as can be, with some of the wheat flavor and texture present throughout as well, not enough berliner types ever let the wheat do anything, so i appreciate that the whole time i am drinking it. the citrus seems obvious, intense even, and there is some bitterness here as well. a seemingly simple beer from a recipe standpoint that actually becomes quite nuanced as it warms up. more sour than a lot of them, but still oddly refreshing each time i take a drag. tasty stuff again from these guys, i have pretty much liked all their beers. they seem to be good at just about everything. i really want to know if there is lemon added to this or not! definitely more summer than winter, but there is never a bad time for a quality berliner like this. props again for being organic too!

This beer smells like fremented piss. Taste like a cheap beer with sour flavoring. It was a chore for me to even finish one can. It has a nice presentation for Berliner Eeisse but shocks you with the cheap taste.

Decided on doing a little bit of experimentation with a Berliner weisse and poured this into a sample flared pilsner glass.
The appearance was a pale yellowed-white color with a quickly dieing cap of white foamy head that didn't leave any lace.
The aroma had a sweet to sour-ed wheatiness up front with a refined lemon wedge built in sour-ness.
The flavor carries forth the sour-ness of the wheat a bit forward than the lemon and adds a light tickle of grassiness at the edges. Fully sour-ed wheat aftertaste, now that's what I'm talking about! Many U.S. brewers don't understand the significance of sour-ing the wheat for a Berliner weisse but I have feel like this brewery understands this!
The mouthfeel was about medium bodied with a favorable sessionability about. Sour-ness was not distracting at all which assisted in crushability. ABV was appropriate. Finish was all about the sour-ed wheat.
Overall, this seems to be brewed very close to German standards for the style. Definitely one, I would gladly have again preferably this time of year.

Nice dark straw color. No head. clear and fizzy. Sour nose. Sour flavor, slight breadiness but not much, mostly just a sour flavor. Very light body but does not have the sharp carbonic bite I'd expect.

I had this beer on-tap in a narrow pint glass at the brewery.

Appearance: cloudy yellow hue with a finger of white foam atop. Can't ask for much more!

Smell: sweet, tart, wheaty, unctuous and lemony. Wonderful.

Taste: much like the aroma; sweet with a nice tartness and a hint of funk but not too much. Wheaty, unctuous and yummy.

Mouthfeel: medium light body but with a smooth texture and a good carbonation yielding a good creaminess. Nice.

Overall: very drinkable; a great example of the style.

Really enjoyed this BW. It's light, refreshing, with just a slight tartness that keeps you sipping. Pours the usual cloudy yellow, almost looking like a hefe as BW usually do. Lemon is well balanced in this to work with the yeast to get that tartness just right. Definitely a good BW to have someone try for their first one. Enjoyed this quite a bit.

Served On-Tap @ Aslan

A — Pours a very hazy and pale light yellow color into the glass. There is a light white colored head atop of it, but it fades by the time it gets to the table and leaves nearly no lacing behind.

S — Smell is of cereal grain and lactobacillus, little bit of a wheat character here, but just light and a little bit of lacto.

T — Little bit of tartness and sour, but again a lot of wheat and a bit of grain and oat. Would love for this to be more sour, but it is OK for what it is.

M — Light in body, quite effervescent and bright.

O — Good overall, a nice starting point, would love more sour bite and a bit more astringency, but as it is, it is OK.
