Pale golden color with a nice foam in the glass with every pour. Very light mouthfeel with virtually no malty body. Nose of flowery hops. The thin, light, and crisp style of Pale Ale. Resiny and a little hot with a lingering piney taste. Flavors include some herbal notes with cilantro and alfalfa. Some warm notes of malt, finally, with a light cracker taste.

Quite drinkable with the moderate alcohol content and should appeal to the hop afficianado. Brewer rates this at 40 IBUs with Cascade, Chinook, and Simcoe hops. From the 22 oz bottle purchased at Bottleworks in San Diego for a surprisingly modest $4.15. Yet another brewery to show up out of nowhere in the San Diego region.

Bottle (2013)

Thanks for sharing this with me, VaTechHopHead!

Clear golden and light amber with a moderately-sized off-white head. Some sticky lacing. Pretty enough pale.

Floral hop elements and a bit of a pine aroma as well. Some definitely grain and pale malt for balance. Decent, and the best aspect of this beer.

Moderately bitter, faint floral hop elements, and bready, cereal, pale malts combine for a somewhat simple, drinkable, pale ale.

Medium bodied with moderate carbonation.

Good enough, but an exciting offering.

HUGE FAN of this beer! I love the Pale Ale style ('specially the American Pale Ale). Saint Archer doesn't disappoint in this regard.

True to the style, it has a slight hops bitterness that comes across as overly refreshing. With a moderate ABV and its canned availability, this is a must-have for any / all summer outings. I stock this in my fridge for mid-week depression cure... aka my go-to beer.

Love what the skater/surfers/slackers are doing at Saint Archers!

Picked up a 22oz from Whole Foods on sale! I'll take any excuse I can to try a new SD beer.

A - Pours a hazy blonde/yellow with a half inch of cream-colored foam. Lighter than you might expect, but it's a welcome difference.

S - Slight malty sweetness behind a strong pine aromas. Getting a bit of grapefruit as well. Not the strong point of this beer, normally I prefer APAs with more herbal, floral characteristics. Pleasant, but leaves me wanting more.

T - Dank, resiny hop flavor with a lingering bitterness. Lots of pine, and the grapefruit stands out considerably more in the flavor than the aroma. Slight malt backbone showcases the hops without overpowering them the slightest bit.

M - Perfect. It's crisp and refreshing, with a lighter malt backbone allowing you to focus more on the hop flavor and bitterness. Moderate to high carbonation

O - A perfect beer for the summer, not for those who are looking for a maltier kind of pale ale. If you're looking for a very hoppy beer on the lighter end, this one's for you!

Appearance: A bright, light golden color with an average tight-bubble head.

Smell: I initially got an off smell. Sweaty sock. Hmmm. But then I got more citrus and specifically orange aromas.

Taste: It was tough for me to get past the initial off smell, but my palate adjusted and the taste evened out.

Mouthfeel: Medium to Light body, on spec for a Pale Ale.

Drinkability: This one has some hop bite, but the off smell killed my enjoyment. Hopefully just an off bottle. I’ll give any local brewery a second chance so I still look forward to my next Saint Archer.

drank 3/14/14 - no bottle date

a: hazy golden burnt caramel orange with a 2 finger solid cooked marshmallow head

s: hops right away, not really in the bitter sense. dank mango, pineapple, piney. PNW smelling. strawberry? then there is some thick dank caramel-y malt smell. hint of pepper. finishes with juicy tropical fruit and bready yeast

t: more bitter than the smell indicated. its a one sided piney/grapefruit bitterness with a HINT of that dank ripe mango in there. middle of the mouth grassy and earthy (think cold tea). finishes with just a hint of sweetness from tropical fruit and zesty citrus

m: pretty light actually. carbonation isn't that high either

o: this is the kind of beer i can see someone liking more as they drink. my first impression is that the flavor is a little to unbalanced and one dimensional. the disadvantage is that it misses out on a bunch of tropical fruit flavors i think would work well. the advantage is that it has a light mouthfeel and is easy to drink - though beware this is more bitter than you'd expect from the nose. in the end i'd like a little less bitter and more fruity. mouthfeel is good for session beer
