12oz can to my FW Imperial Nonic
Notes on 08/01/2014

A: Dull and brassy looking pale amber body with slight hop haze. Thick creamy whipped topping of stubborn khaki suds. Multiple runners of broken tracked lace swath the sides of the glass.

S: Smells floral and sappy with pine hops and orange zest. A light herbal suggestion as well with a mild bready pale malt undercurrent. A real juicy hopped nose that has me excited about diving into this one.

T: Resinous pines with orange-tangerine juice, florals, and some understated herbal concentrate. Upper levels of hop bitterness that pepper at the palate with alcohol kept incognito. Bready pale malt to balance with just a pinch of caramel sweetness throughout. Maintains a really solid balance making this a very nice American Pale. Plenty of juicy hop goodness in balance to those bready pale malts.

M: Moderate to lighter filling with a nice frothy texture. Spritzy amount of carb running through. Nice higher level of hop bitterness leading into a lingering dry finish.

D: This is a great APA and my favorite offering from St. Archer thus far. Classic mix of American C hops and such solid balance while tipping the scales towards being hop forward. Crushable now comes in cans.

look: 4 | smell: 2 | taste: 2.5 | feel: 3 | overall: 2.5

Appearance: A bright, light golden color with an average tight-bubble head.

Smell: I initially got an off smell. Sweaty sock. Hmmm. But then I got more citrus and specifically orange aromas.

Taste: It was tough for me to get past the initial off smell, but my palate adjusted and the taste evened out.

Mouthfeel: Medium to Light body, on spec for a Pale Ale.

Drinkability: This one has some hop bite, but the off smell killed my enjoyment. Hopefully just an off bottle. I’ll give any local brewery a second chance so I still look forward to my next Saint Archer.

Picked up a 22oz from Whole Foods on sale! I'll take any excuse I can to try a new SD beer.

A - Pours a hazy blonde/yellow with a half inch of cream-colored foam. Lighter than you might expect, but it's a welcome difference.

S - Slight malty sweetness behind a strong pine aromas. Getting a bit of grapefruit as well. Not the strong point of this beer, normally I prefer APAs with more herbal, floral characteristics. Pleasant, but leaves me wanting more.

T - Dank, resiny hop flavor with a lingering bitterness. Lots of pine, and the grapefruit stands out considerably more in the flavor than the aroma. Slight malt backbone showcases the hops without overpowering them the slightest bit.

M - Perfect. It's crisp and refreshing, with a lighter malt backbone allowing you to focus more on the hop flavor and bitterness. Moderate to high carbonation

O - A perfect beer for the summer, not for those who are looking for a maltier kind of pale ale. If you're looking for a very hoppy beer on the lighter end, this one's for you!
