From notes taken 4/21, day after release.
Served in the Dogfish Head signature glass

This beer pours a deep amber with hints of earth; about a finger of head. Aromas of sweet malts and hops as well as a touch of booze. Some caramel and figs are predominant. Taste is much of the same, lots of sweet malts balanced by the Nelson Sauvin, Mosaic, Horizon, Palisade, Citra, Willamette, & Columbus hop blend. For as many hops go into this brew, it is surprisingly balanced. More of the tropical hop aroma/flavor go into the beer than the bitterness.

The balance definitely makes this brew smoother and more palatable than many similar beers such as Arrogant Bastard, which comes off as hotter and more bitter than this beer. I would not call this an amazing beer by any stretch, but a great flagship, and a great first entry into brewing for a brand new company. Cheers and good luck!

Consumed from a growler filled 05/07/13 over two days. Real Ale glass one day and a BB Vanilla Porter snifter next day.

A - originally poured a little carb heavy producing approximate 2.5 fingers of head from an aggressive pour into a freshly rinsed clean glass. Mahogany colored that appears very clear as the glasses emptied.

S - was fairly muted when colder but when the temp came up it produced lots of jam and jelly fruit aromas with some stone fruit and a touch of caramel paired with a slightly present bready/biscuit malt type profile.

T - dark fruits like sweet plum appears right off the bat. The slight biscuit aroma comes though in the flavor but almost like a gourmet pb&j. Kind of fruity, kind of nutty, kind of bread and biscuity. It does have some tropical hop flavor too it which pairs well with the jam and bread flavors. Very smooth - no fusel or alchohol detected which makes it easy to drink. A slightly hoppy and bready malt profile lingers on the back end.

M - medium bodied. It finished with a slightly drying malt flavor and some hops that almost cleanses your palate on its own, setting me up to quickly grab another sip.

D - see comments above in D. The way the beer pairs with itself it's very easy to drink for almost 8%. No detection of alcohol either.

Overall a very nice beer in a style void in most breweries. The fruit, malts and hops combine in this one to make me want to keep taking sip after sip. It's weird I can't say exactly why this bed makes me want to keep drinking it but it does - it just works. No off flavors, which is nice to see from a new brewery in Columbus for once.
