Illusive Traveler is a deceptively delicious wheat beer made with real grapefruit. This refreshing take on a Shandy delivers a bright and satisfying citrus aroma and flavor, then quickly disappears, leaving you searching for another.

Massively turbid burnt orange color with a tangerine glow. Big initial head learned to settle to a cap that's starting to break apart. Looks like high pulp orange juice, but a little darker.

Huge notes of ruby red grapefruit juice, orange juice, lemon squares, graham crackery wheat malt, and pungent yeast powder. Fruit aromatics cart away the beer elements. Light peppery note gives it some character.

Expired grapefruit juice, grated orange rind, honey wheat malts, lemon peel, mild tea hop bitterness, citric acidity, and yeasty clove. Base beer is textured, and definitely German in nature. Grain bill shows up nicely.

Feels creamier than most shandies, with a mimosa kind of mouthfeel. Juicy, but with a good crescendo of spritz.

I like this grapefruit version a lot more than the others. (798 characters)

There's a line between Shandy and Radler and this presents a Shandy in a Radlers clothing. It drinks incredibly light and easy, almost like a juice, but has a crisp carbonated feel. It is fruity with huge grapefruit sweet and sour, sugary lemon and tart lime. It drinks and tastes like a Radler but it's 4.5 ABV. So you can shotgun this on a hot day and it will affect your brain. (380 characters)

Appearance: Cloudy with a retained 1/2 inch slightly off-white head

Smell: Definite citrus aroma dominated by the grapefruit. Smells like the pith of the fruit with some orange as well. No hint of alcohol and not much hop presence.

Taste: Sweetness right off the bat with a low amount of carbonation. Smooth and silky from the wheat. Tart and with a slight tart bitterness that lingers.

Mouthfeel: low carbonation and wheat make for a silky smooth mouthfeel.

Overall: A nicely balanced and authentic tasting shandy. A little overly sweet for me in the front but calms down nicely in the middle and back. Refreshing and one of the better shandies I've had. (662 characters)

From the 12 fl. oz. bottle with the expiration date notched out at August 2014. Sampled on May 30, 2014.

Milky, cloudy orange pale yellow pour with a fizzy white head.

The aromas are an abundance of fruits including orange, lemon, and grapefruit. I picked up a hint of black pepper too.

Light and refreshing body which is expected for the style.

Can one say "wine cooler?" OK, maybe a bit extreme but this has an overpowering fruitiness but shandies should I suppose. Not sure. I don't drink a lot of them. But it is more like a fruit drink for a hot summer day than a beer. (578 characters)
