Not that we're in July and I've been sampling shandies from a variety of brewers I feel like I'm getting a hang for the style. Just like any other shandy traveler looks, smells and tastes like beer and lemonade. It's the balance of beer and not too sweet but just sweet enough lemonade that makes Curious Traveler, and all the other Traveler brews for that matter, just right for me. It's not too beery, it's not too lemonade-y. It has a nice body, not to thin or slick. It's the middle of Goldilock's shandies.

LOOK: Pours cloudy yellow with a milky look. Like what you might expect from a carbonated fresh lemonade. The only difference is a white silky head that leaves lacing down the glass.

SMELL: Hardly any aroma at all. Faded lemons and grains, but that's barely there.

TASTE: Quite lemony and refreshing. Fredh squeezed lemonade flavor, with ample malty sugars. Tart lemony notes last the duration of the drinking experience. Like a hard lemonade, but with fuller body and carbonation from the malts. There is a faint vegetal bitterness but remains hidden behind layers of lemon. Kind of reminds me of lemon pop ice cream.

FEEL: Light bodied, light spritzy carbonation. A little tartness lingers into the wet finish and is rather nice.

OVERALL: A top notch shandy, smoother than many imported versions, this is smooth and drinks like a refreshing summer dessert. I'd look for this again sometime.

Served in pint glass.

Appearance: A real cloudy yellow, pale in color with heavy bubbles rising up to over a finger's length coming off straight white.

Smell: Light lemon and citrus

Taste: Strong lemon, little sweet. Feels like a somewhat pale bitter lemonade. Not bad but I definitely wouldn't brag about it.

Mouth: Medium, feels light at times but after taste disappears real quick.

Overall: Not a bad brew better appreciated on hot summer day, I say this because it feels more like a thirst quencher. Thirsty night you know what to do....Salud!

This is my first time trying a shandy and I must say, I thoroughly enjoyed it.

A nice hay-yellow look with a thick, lacy, head that stayed through half my drinking experience.

It had a faint smell of grain, lemons, and grass that was inviting yet not too fragrant.

The first taste brings lemony notes overlaying the grainy beer with a hint of lemongrass or other green, earthy flavors.

For the full taste think lemons, a hint of lime, obviously beer with the tiniest hint of hops--but by no means bitter tasting. Not a lot of depth here, but certainly refreshing.

By no means does it have a heavy mouthfeel (compared to the Belgian Quads I usually drink, it's especially light indeed!) but fills the mouth with a pleasant lightness which serves to invite another sip while lingering long enough that you can get in snippets of a good conversation without constantly sipping.

The finish was not especially long, but certainly good enough for this kind of beer. I could definitely taste the lemon on the finish, but it faded to a more grainy beer flavor after a few seconds, giving way to a hint of lemonade as the parting flavor.

Overall, I really liked this shandy and will definitely have it at any outdoor events I host or attend over the summer (and well, fall too, seeing as how I live in FL and it's hot all year here!). A very nice, refreshing, light and yet substantial beer that I hope Traveler Beer Co. will continue for years to come!
