Tenacious Traveler Shandy has a fairly thick, soapy, white head, an opaque, wheaty-orange appearance, lots of fierce, streaming bubbles, and minimal lacing. The aroma is of a spiced candle and possibly bread. Taste is very spiced (not hot), and one is met with intense ginger, some clover honey, and sweet bread. Mouthfeel is full and heavy, and Tenacious Traveler Shandy finishes sloppy, sweet, rich, and spiced. Overall, for what it is, it’s really well made.

This is actually a good fruit beer compared to the others that I have had. The lemon taste wasn't overbearing compared to Leinenkugel. It had a mix of lemon, grapefruit, and orange. A nice light fruit beer that can be enjoyed during the warm weather.

A: The beer is very hazy pale yellow in color and has a light amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a quarter finger high white head that died down rather quickly, leaving a small patch of bubbles in the center and a collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Light to moderate aromas of ginger are present in the nose along with some notes of lemons.
T: The taste is similar to the smell, but there is slightly more balance between the ginger and lemon flavors as the ginger isn't nearly as dominant.
M: It feels light-bodied (but not watery) on the palate and just about has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This shandy is quite similar to ginger ale soda, except that it doesn't have much sweetness and isn't quite as carbonated. It seems like it would make for a refreshing beverage on a hot summer day.

Here it is, a little over a year since I became Curious and now I am becoming Tenacious.

From the bottle: "Ale brewed with Lemon Peel with Natural Flavors, Honey, & Ginger added"; "Quite a refresher!"

Once again, this series has a propensity to foam up in an explosive manner and so one's pour must be somewhat gentle as a result (unless you like beer foaming up and out of your glass). Four pours later, the bottle was empty and the glass held two fingers of big, dense, foamy, bone-white head with excellent retention. Color was a murky yellowish-orange (SRM = > 7, < 9). It may be subliminal suggestion, but I swear that I really could smell lemon, honey and ginger on the nose! It was like smelling a Hall's cough drop. I do not mean that to be funny, but that is of what I was immediately reminded. Mouthfeel was full, bubbly and the flavors were all there, present and accountable. I think that they could dial the honey back some, though, as it was getting in the way of the lemon tartness, especially and even muting the spice of the ginger, rendering it sweeter than I would prefer. That said, of the three of the Travelers that I have had, this would probably be the one that I would reach for on a hot summer's day. The finish was crisp and refreshing, semi-dry, let's call it. Not bad, but not precisely my cup of tea, either.

Poured from a 12oz bottle into a US tumbler pint glass.

A: The beer is a deep, cloudy, yellow color with a short white head that fades quickly and leaves a thin lace on the glass.

S: The aroma is contains a lot of fruit and spices, light caramelized malts and a faint touch of hops.

T: There starts out very sweet with flavors of lemon, orange, ginger and honey. Then some breadiness comes in from a light malt character. The hops presence is very mild and brings a little balance. The after-taste is sweet.

M: Crisp and a little smooth, light-to-medium body, medium carbonation, finish is slightly sticky.

O: Flavorful but not very tasty, goes down ok, not too filling, very mild kick, decent representation of style, I found the spice and fruit flavors too intense, not a beer I would want to drink again.

Has a nice inviting smell. It's a refreshing beer, and would be a great transitional beer for those who aren't into heavier beers. The ginger is a bit overpowering and takes away from some of the flavor of the ale. The lemon is very strong too. I thought the honey would balance it out but it's still very potent on the other two flavors.

Opaque maize color like a glass of dark honey. Head quickly fritters and fizzles away. Smells like Arizona lemon iced tea. Tastes like honey and shandy. I'm not picking up any ginger.

Certainly better than most lemonade beer concoctions. As of now I'm' not sure the shandy bar has been set high enough to make that a safe or bold statement.

Poured from bottle into a pint glass

Appearance – The beer pours a quite hazy orange-peach color with a billowy just off white head. The head dissipates over time to leave a light level of lace on the sides of the glass.

Smell – The aroma is quite heavy of ginger with it clearly dominating the smell. With the strong ginger, is a lighter lemonade smell and some aromas of a light honey smell as well.

Taste - The taste begins with a mix of a malty grainy taste mixed with lots of sweeter lemon tastes. Quickly ginger comes to the tongue adding an almost ginger ale type taste to the brew. In the end the ginger flavors grow stronger along with the lemonade, producing a spicy ginger and lemonade flavor to linger on the tongue.

Mouthfeel-The body of the brew is actually slightly thicker then I would have expected for a shandy of only 4.4 % abv with a carbonation level that is on the higher side. The higher carbonation is great for all the spicy ginger flavors, but the body would possibly be more refreshing if slightly thinner. The thicker body was actually fairly decent overall though as it did really allow all the ginger flavors to linger on the tongue.

Overall- A rather nice take on a shandy. If you are looking for something sweeter, more lemonade and ginger ale like then this is a good go to. Nicely done for the style.

A: Pours a very cloudy golden orange color with a fingers worth of head that dies down to nothing within minutes

S: Lots of lemon and honey sweetness along with wheat, light spicy ginger, and yeast

T: Starts off with lemon, honey, ginger, and wheat and slowly lingers to more of the ginger and sweetness in the finish

M: Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Chalky and yeasty

O: The ginger and honey add a nice dimension to the original lemon shandy. They add a light spiciness and a touch more sweetness (the lemon shandy is already quite sweet) that certainly make it interesting. Good if you like shandies, so pick some up if they're for you

Pours the same type of color as the other two traveler shandies. Cloudy blonde with amber highlights. Thin head.

Lemon peel, honey and ginger shine on the nose. A hint of wheat too.

Ditto for flavor. Lemon, honey and ginger. Very mellow.

Finishes clean enough and without a syrupy malt beverage aftertaste.

A fairly decent shandy. I'm not big on the style otherwise.

Very cloudy. Whitish gold color. No head nor lace.

Strong ginger aroma. Semisweet, but not where I notice specific honey smells

More honey like in the taste. Very sweet with a squeeze of lemon. There's a touch of beef stew to the flavor. Rich body and moderately low carbonation. Think sweet lemonade and a pilsner.

Pours a cloudy orange, like a ruddy hefeweizen (the wheat beer foundation shines through), and with substantial off-white carbonation. No lace, though.

Nose is spicy ginger, with a touch of lemon citrus. Not extravagant, but appealing.

Flavor is dominated by the ginger infusion, but with touches of smooth and sweet honey and some lemony citrus. Body is fittingly light, and this proves to be quite drinkable. Not a terrible shandy, and surely quite refreshing on a hot day.

A: A cloudy yellow color, no head at all and a slight bit of lacing around the glass.

S: The smell was completely citrus and lemon, a slight hint of white wine as well.

T: Taste was like an orangina, lots of citrus fruit and lemon throughout.

M: A lot of carbonation and medium bodied

O: I dont even know why I ordered this, it was not good, very carbonated and not tasteful.

A - bright, almost clear yellow.
S - Reminded me of lemon gatorade with ginger dropped in it.
T - See above. No hope profile whatsoever. Very sweet, is this beer or a zima?
M- Syrupy like cough medicine.
O- I'm open to different types of beer, but this is not very good. I actually had trouble finishing it.

Poured into a weizen glass. Poured a hazy cloudy amber, with a generous 3 finger white frothy head. Plentiful streams of carbonation rose from the bottom. Aroma was pretty much as described, initial blast of lemon citrus scent. As it mellowed out, the honey sweet could be detected. Taste was initially a bit bland and watery. Shifted to a lemonade flavor that was fairly well balanced, not overly tart or sweet. Not a bad flavor, but I don't think it fits the wheat ale style well. Coated ok, a tad sticky. Overall a good shandy, but not really what I would expect of in a wheat ale.

This poured out as a light amber color with a cream colored head on top. The retention and lacing were minimal. The smell of the beer had quite a bit of ginger on the nose with some subtle malt sweetness. The taste has plenty of fresh tasting ginger from start to finish, some subtle lemon flavors in there as well as a subtle malt sweetness as well. The mouthfeel is light, smooth and fairly refreshing. Overall this beer is pretty interesting, not sure how much Ginger I could handle in a sitting. I could see this being a one bottle beer a day or something like that.

I've got to say - despite the midding reviews I've been on the lookout for this guy. I just love ginger, and a shandy with ginger sounded right up my alley. It really is a stunning looking beer, it's got a nice hazy color that goes from white on the thin areas of my glass to orange of the thick. The aroma is superb, it's got a nice sharp lemon and ginger aroma that really draws me in. A big honey note comes in on the tongue that I didn't get out of the nose, along with the very nice lemon flavor and a ginger note that works well with the wheaty finish. As a ginger maniac, I want more ginger and less honey, but it's still tasty. The mouthfeel seems a a bit too heavy and sticky at the finish. Don't get me wrong, it's got a light body, but it seems to stick around a little too long in the mouth. The drinkability is solid. Overall, a good shandy that offers a nice twist on the formula.

4oz pour, best by 2/2013 on label
Served at The Queen Theater in Wilmington, DE

A: Poured out a bright yellow orange type color. Not a ton of head, about a half finger of bright white head that faded down quite quickly. When I swirled it, it left some good lacing. No alcohol feet.

S: Smells like a lemonade actually. Can already tell that I am not a fan of this beer. Lemon. Coriander. Ginger. Smells of wheat beer without the Belgian yeast spiciness.

T: Taste follows the nose. Sweet lemonade like flavors. You get that coriander and ginger flavor that you smelled. It just doesn't have the wheat malt bill or Belgian yeast that a wit beer would have. Sitting at a table with all females who ended up loving it, go figure.

M: Light bodied with plenty of carbonation.

More head than curious traveler but duller in color and just as hazy. Smells liked pickled ginger, lemon peel, and coriander. Ginger really comes through. Tastes like whispy ginger wheat beer. Light body with champagne like carbonation which hurts the throat after a couple of swallows. Semi-sweet grain with nothing really to balance it besides carbonation cutting up your lungs. A one trick pony that only showcases the ginger flavor which gets real old real quick.

Unlike other shandys this one is refreshing for the first sip only, it then gets syrupy and harsh from the carbonation and ginger flavor. Sweetness lingers making you want another sip but the pain in your throat keeps you away from sipping it again.

12 oz. twist-off bottle, best by Feb. 2013 notched on the label.

Pours clouded yellow with a white creamy head that descends to a lasting thin cover. Some trailing lace sticks.

The smell is of lemon peel, slight cake-like bread and a hint of ginger.

The taste is of (pink?) lemonade, sugar-coated lemon peel, some honey and just a hint of spicy ginger in the finish. Sweet-ish, but not overly so. There is some mild yeast in the aftertaste.

It's pretty creamy. It is smooth.

A nicely done shandy, with plenty of lemon, a touch of honey and ginger.
