A-Deep, dark, cola brown with a wispy, light tan head that hung around and left spotty lace.

S-Toasted walnut, roasted malt and a touch of coffee. All present but rather light.

T-Good, straight forward roasty/toasty flavour with a bit of nutty dryness in the finish along with a touch of coffee bitterness.

M-Medium bodied with a pleasant drying finish and good lasting flavours.

D-Good stuff, nothing over the top here but a solid, easy drinking and well crafted brew. Nice flavour profile that really compliments itself!

Originally reviewed on October 7, 2006. On tap at the brewpub. Deep brown-black pour with a rim of tan. Distant roasted beast and coffee aroma. A thin jaunt of coffee roast, beef crust and light molasses. Some restrained sweetness balances with the dry roasted character. Caramelized. Some leaching sweetness stays the bitter roasted character, but it still smacks peculiarly. A mediocre stout without any particularly intriguing character. I’m beginning to think that based on current and past ratings that the quality of the brewing at this place has fallen drastically in the past few years. These beers weren’t flavorful or too thin, but they were a little dirty and the whole line up is hit or miss.

Ink black. Head is disappointing. After 10 seconds, this is none. Not even a collar. That's pretty unusual. Nose is wonderful. Chocolate, oats, cocoa, java, vanilla bean. This is one beer I could sniff all day. The mouthfeel is pretty sad on this one. Very watery and thin. Uncarbonated. Taste is pretty bland too. A little oaty. A little chocolate. A little vinegar. This is not a very enjoyable stout. Maybe I WILL just sniff this one all day.

Thanks for the Growler Tavernjeff.

Thin liquidy black color with light lacing of off-white ivory color, very thin head was produced, dissolving like a puff a smoke in the wind. Smell is roasted malts, dark and earthy a bit, hard to get in the nose anything really. Taste makes up for it, nice drying stout taste the way it should be. Darkly roasted malts mostly with a touch of nut and nutskins and a nice little hop twinge late. Fresh and soild. Pretty full bodied and slightly rich, smooth and nice drying quality thats really easy going. Very nice stout, quite satisfying and enjoyable.
