A: The beer is hazy orange amber in color and has a light amount of visible carbonation along with some small particulates near the edge of the glass. It poured with a finger high beige head that has good retention properties and took a long time to die down, consistently leaving a quarter finger high head covering the surface.
S: Moderate aromas of caramel malts are present in the nose along with notes of citrusy and piney hops.
T: The taste is similar to the smell, but the hops are stronger than the malts—flavors of grapefruit stand out in particular—and contribute a light to moderate amount of carbonation. No sweetness is perceptible.
M: It feels medium-bodied and crisp on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This IPA is easy to drink and has a good balance between the malts and hops.

Thanks to RussianDragon for the bottle.

The beer is clear and light golden with an inch of white head. Aromas include tangerine, bread dough, light pine. Refreshing and tasty. Citrus character comes through, balanced by a sourdough, yeast character. A hint of melon, finishing with a gentle bitterness. Alcohol masked quite well. A solid brew.

A- A slow pour into a pint glass produces a huge foamy and bubbly white head, about four-fingers that takes a while to finally settle, over-carbonated perhaps? Body is a hazy golden-orange

S- tropical and citrusy hop aroma with notes of mango, pineapple and orange peel. Sweet sugary malt

T- tropical fruity hop flavors follow the aroma with an emphasis on pineapple and grass. Malty sweetness with a raw dry finish

M- medium body with heavy carbonation leads to a mouth-feeling foamy mouthfeel and a sudsy finish

O- perhaps this was just an over carbonated batch, but the mouthfeel was like drinking soda. The flavor is a little rough around the edges, but has a nice fruity hop profile

I am now committed to reducing, if not eradicating, my backlog of bottles. This one was part of a local, in-person trade with tone77.

From the bottle: "Join The Brotherhood!"; "Achieve Maximum Hoptimization!"; "What's a craft brewery to do when all the typical IPA hops are gone? Innovate, of course, just like craft breweries have always done. Our West Coast IPA recipe fluctuates, capturing a creativity that any craft beer enthusiast can appreciate. Hoptimization uses an ever-evolving hop bill unique to every production cycle to achieve the same citrusy flavor you love and the bold, bitter bite you crave."; "Step away from typical and try something new."; "Three Brothers Brewing is located in downtown Harrisonburg, Virginia: The heart of the Shenandoah Valley. Come see us sometime!"; "Keep 'em cold/Drink 'em in a glass"; Batch Number: MFG2014.05.25".

I used an aggro pour to get a pseudo-cascade started, resulting in three fingers of dense, tawny head with good retention. Color was a deep-gold (SRM = > 5, < 7) with NE-quality clarity. Of course, this led to the untimely arrival of Croesus, Mammon and Midas, all clamoring for a sip. I pressed on, leaning in for a sniff and I have to say, it was right up hophead alley! It was a dank combination of pine and grapefruit with a little bit of caramel thrown in for good measure. The head was now beginning to fall, leaving behind some nice lacing. Mouthfeel was medium. I got a little bit of fusel alcohol initially, then some sweet caramel and then the hops began to kick in. Once the bitter citrusiness took hold, I really could not taste much else. It was like the hops were holding a surprise party and once they jumped out, there were no secrets left. Finish was dry and bitter, just the way I like my AIPAs.
