When the lights dim, the curtains pull back, and the Beledi starts, it is time for a Mystery Romp! This mocha colored ale, infused with chocolate and coffee, can best be described as a tasteful dance between a robust Porter and a rich stout.

Crooked letter brewing company has an amazing product on their hands! This beer has an amazing mouth feel with an awesome chocolate/moca finish! One of the best beer I have had. If you are passing through anywhere that happens to have this brewers brand try it.

Poured on tap at Mahogany bar
A- a nice black pour with small, tan head and lots of tiny bubbles. Little to no lace.
S- wow! This is as close to perfect as I've had. Just the right blend of coffee/chocolate with vanilla cream peaking through. Super lovely nose.
T- coffee is the in the forefront with a nice malty presence. A bit of toffee and a mild hop bitterness near the end.
M- medium body that goes down really smooth.
O- really impressed with this one. One of the better porters I've had. The blend is what makes this beer so good.

Poured from a brown 12 oz. bottle. Has a black color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is strong of coffee, some chocolate as well. Taste is bitter coffee up front, sweet chocolate at the finish. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall is a fine beer, especially if you enjoy coffee.

Had on-tap at Bulldog mid-city New Orleans. Served in a pint glass.

A- Pours a fully opaque black color with a 1/4 inch head that doesn't last long.

S- Full-on chocolate/coffee goodness with some vanilla and caramel sweetness.

T- Excellent blend of coffee, chocolate and dark roast. So drinkable, borderline decadent.

M- Thick and semi-creamy. Medium carbonation and a full body.

O- Had to do a brief review cuz this guy at the bar was talking my ear off. Fantastic brew though. One of the best coffee beers I've had and that's saying something cuz I've had some of the best (WnB, FB MBCP and CCB Cubano Espresso to name a few).

Not a fan at all. Tastes exactly like chocolate milk poured into beer with a little coffee mixed in. Very intense flavor and smell. Strongest Porter I have ever tasted. Almost tastes like watered down cappuccino. If you love Porters, this is the beer for you. I am more of a recreational Porter drinker though so it is too intense for my tastes.

I'll give it points for being the only of it's kind made locally, but have had more balanced coffee beers that aren't as overpowering

One if the best beers I've ever had. Tons of coffee up front with waves of chocolate on the back end. Do yourself a favor and drink it up.

Had it on top and in a bottle

A: A normal black pour, with a one finger tan head. Doesn't leave very substantial lace.
S: A very nice dark coffee smell with undertones of earthiness and chocolate.
T: The taste is what makes it! A wonderful coffee flavor with a perfect balance of chocolate and toffee flavors. Mildly creamy and hops for some bitterness.
M: Medium and smooth. Very drinkable for a porter.
O: A great overall porter. The best I've had so far. A really nice beer from a smaller Mississippi brewery.

Served out of the tap in my kitchen.
Pours very dark brown with a dark tan head that hangs on for a while.
Smell is dominated by coffee, but also some dark chocolate. Delicious.
Taste is like the smell. Unlike some beers with a big coffee nose, the coffee does not disappear in the taste. Also some dark chocolates that contribute to a very slight twang of bitterness at the finish.
Mouthfeel is smooth and creamy. low carbonation. Feels like a big beer; makes you realize that Porter and Stout are not just brothers but fraternal twins.
Overall: another fantastic beer from a new brewery right here in South Mississippi. Just like their Stabello Italian Lager, this beer could stand up tall anywhere in America.
Looking forward to serving this to friends.

Appearance: Poured a jet black into a pint glass with a thin, dark-brown head that fades slowly, some notable lacing on the glass.

Smell: Roasted coffee and dark malts, with some chocolate notes. Nice smelling beer.

Taste: More of the aroma with coffee at the forefront followed by a roasty character and just a touch of chocolate. Very smooth and drinkable.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with light carbonation and a creamy texture. Very drinkable porter.

Overall: A very good beer here out of Mississippi with a great drinkability. Well done and I'd love to try some more from them.

Served on-tap at Mugshots in Meridian, MS. Served in chilled mug.

Dark brown-black with nice tan head.

Smell is nice toasted malts, chocolate, toffee and coffee. Very inviting.

Taste follows smell nicely with lots of chocolate, caramel and coffee. Good bitterness balances this out well.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied with average carbonation.

Overall this was excellent. I am excited to see what lies ahead for this new brewery.

Draft version felt thin in the mouth. Bottled version feels proper for a porter. Strongest actual flavors of coffee and chocolate I have ever tasted in a beer, though in no way overpowering. May be my favorite porter now. Can pair with desserts though not much sweetness.

I don't want it to seem like I'm blowing smoke here, but Romp is just about as close to perfect as you can get in my book. This is an extremely complex and well crafted beer.
I'll admit, It took me a little while to get on this band wagon. I was able to see the beauty of this beer, because it kept leaving me wanting more after each tasting.

Pours a beautiful dark brown/black color with a very creamy tan head. The head retention and lacing with this brew are phenomenal.
The nose is comprised of fabulous touches of roasted malts & chocolate.
The taste of this Porter is very complex with traces of coffee, chocolate, caramel. It's robust and extremely filling, but will leave you wanting many more glasses. It doesn't seem to drag me down like many dark beers do.
The Mouthfeel is exactly what you should expect from a well crafted Porter/Stout... comforting, relaxing

Thank you Crooked Letter and keep up the great work.
Drink this beer people!

Classified as a porter but with a taste somewhere between a robust porter and a rich stout, this beer has a great taste that balances a strong coffee overtone with mocha undertones to create a bittersweet beer. This beer has a great mouth feel and a pleasant aftertaste that left me wanting more

I finally got to try a beer from one of Mississippi's newest breweries and it did not disappoint. Poured from a tap into a beer mug. Really dark with a nice head.

T - Coffees and a hint of chocolate, really smooth and very drinkable.

M - Mouthfeel just right for the style.

I really enjoyed this beer. I plan on revisiting it soon and will add a more detailed review. I'm proud that this excellent beer is from the state of MS and look forward to trying their other offerings.

On tap at State Street Barbecue, Jackson, MS; poured into a pint glass

A: Blackish brown with a tan 1 finger head that slowly faded away. Light lacing.

S: A Chocolate and coffee mix

T : Wow! An avalanche of chocolate and espresso hits you full on. Malty. Smooth, robust as hell. Sweet. Slightly smokey.

M: Medium to heavy with medium carbonation.

O: This is one of the best porters I've ever tried. Crooked Letter has a solid winner. Goes well with barbecue, and I'm sure, a chocolate chip cookie. One of my new favorites.
