Pretty solid murky brown color with a short lasting cream colored head. Nose includes caramel, chocolate, roasted malt, and dark fruits.
This one comes strong with the yeast out of the gate before switching to booze and then light fruits like pear or apple. A little too much carbonation to start but ultimately fairly smooth but texture could be stiffer. Finish is relatively clean but warming.
Not a bad effort, but not terribly;y exciting.

Brewery reports that this is "a Belgian dubbel made with Johnston County white sweet potatoes, toasted marshmallows and spices."
From a can at the 2017 Burning Can Festival (NC).
Clear dark brown body.
Loads of dark dry fruit flavors. Not so harmonious and with a hint of what seemed like over-ripe pitted fruits but was likely sweet potatoes and perhaps some marshmallows. Mild bitterness.
Medium+ body.

Had on tap. Amber body somewhat clear body with a beige cap. Smell features sweet potato biscuit, cinnamon and big boozy wine, depth is limited. Taste is kind of wild the more I think about it, here we have a dubbel with the yeast and candi sugar bonding with maple, sweet potato, caramel, cinnamon and a touch of vanilla, booze on the backend is strong but not unbalanced as the nose is. Feel is more like the nose though, too hot and adjunct textures are just plain odd, but still points for creativity

L: Clear amber brown pour with light tan head that leaves no lacing
S: Bready, boozy, sweet and spicy. Has a slight banana and clove smell
T: Yeasty, sweet, boozy, slightly sour and strange.
F: Slightly less than medium body with moderate carbonation.
O: Seems to have a a slightly tart and odd taste. I have admired many beers from Deep River but this is not one of my favorites.

Pours into a chalice a russet brown with a thinner but well retained off white head atop.A bit of yeasty spice in the nose with a touch of brown sugar.A spicy palate with that touch of the sweet potato being noticed,a pretty complex flavor profile if a little thin. Not bad, interesting is a good word.

8 ounce pour - $4.50 at Thirsty Monk in Asheville, North Carolina.
Appearance: The warmer of winters has an amber-hued body, minimally hazed, with a light, beige head.
Smell: Sparsely sweet-scented, predominately bready malts given a pinch of spice, housing a bit of plum fruitiness and rounded out by the light notes of yam and marshmallow.
Taste: Bready, toasty sweetish maltiness with a slightly rustic, earthy quality from the sweet potatoes. Gently fruity. The toasted marshmallows are noticeable, yes, and adds an interested little touch. Modest spiciness, low alcohol accents. A further flavor of the marshmallows precedes the sweetish, lightly spicy finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation.
Overall: It feels just a mite bit light for a Belgian-style dubbel, but the sweet potato and marshmallow make for some interesting flavors and it's a fairly good beer overall.
