D&T Drive Inn is legit! Great selection and NON RAPE prices

$6 for a full tulip of Creme Brulee is righteous - Non of the beers there are over $6 and the pours are always generous.

Only con is the place is TINY and there is only Street Parking, If this place blows up parking will become a nightmare.

Update: The kitchen has been up and running for a few weeks now. It is all small plates with a few sandwiches. Everything I have had has been great. All cheeses come from Houston Dairymaids, and all meats come from Revival Market. Talk about locally sourced. The brie, ham, and grape sandwich is bad ass. As are the poboys. A huge cheese and meat platter that brings everything together on one plate. I am really impressed.

A brand new beer bar brought to you by the guys from Downhouse. D&T was an icehhouse opened for years on the east edge of the Heights. After they closed, Downhouse purchased the property, kept the name and icehouse charm, along with a complete remodel and about 50 beer taps. They still have the original D&T sign out front. It looks 30 years old, I love it.

The unfortunate part is they had to cut down a huge oak tree. The tree was cutting into the foundation of the building, and there was nothing else they could do. What ended up happening is; they used the tree to build the bar and a few tables. Which looks amazing.

Tons of seating along the wood bar, and the great outdoor patio. A garage door that opens up front, along with an open back area. The patio is semi covered with a deck. Just an awesome chill spot. They do have a few TV's, and a great jukebox. Both can be done at an annoying level, but here neither are intrusive.

On to the beer!!! 50 rotating taps right now. Texas and Houston are well represented. All the Houston breweries, along with DR 13, some of the newer Karbach releases, and Buffalo Bayou. 512, Live Oak Hefe, and Deep Ellum (a year old Wealth & Taste at the opening). Founder's, Clown Shoes, North Coast round out other very good US micros. Along with Weihenstephaner, St. Bernardus Abt 12, and Unibroue for good imports. Hell, even Pearl and Lone Star.

Outside of a broken glass rinser, everything at the bar has been run to a T. The service is great. Some familiar faces from Downhouse, and a few people I'm just getting to know. Everyone is very enthusiastic, and very helpful.

They will have at least one cask engine installed this week, and maybe as many as two more in the weeks to come. They will fill growlers, and sell bottles to go. The kitchen will be up and running in the coming weeks. There was a pig roast at the opening, and it was great. Looking forward to seeing what else they make. I can't wait to see D&T in full operational mode.
