Near Varna is Hopshire's strongest and hoppiest offering. The beer is dry hopped prior to serving and has a strong citrus/pine nose. Lots of hop flavor up front, the beer finishes comfortably bitter. The ABV is slightly high for an IPA but balanced well by the malt body which explains the caramel color which is on the darker side for this style.

Hopshire just opened a few weeks ago and is currently only serving their beer at the brewery in samplers and growlers to go. They are planning to rotate beers through quickly and will hopefully have some additional hoppy beers on tap in the next few months.

Poured from a growler, fresh from the brewery. This beer is an amber color with relatively low carbonation.

The aroma of the beer is pleasant, but primarily dominated by maltiness, with a mild level of hops coming through.

The taste too is heavily influenced by the malt levels with a secondary level of hoppiness. There is a light to moderate level of sweetness from the malts. Good tasting beer.

For those hop heads, like myself, this beer is not overly hoppy, but still has a nice balanced taste that is more malt forward. A good tasty change of pace.
