Appearance: pours a solid black color. a nice frothy head of a finger or two forms with a tan color and slowly recedes. leaves behind a nice solid lacing. opaque with darkness.
Smell: blackstrap molasses, dark fruits, and maple syrup. a saltiness mixes in occasionally. moderate chocolate.
Taste: opens up with blackstrap molasses again. next up a maple syrup tastes comes in lightly mostly being masked by dark fruit, these flavors are also followed by a moderately strong and dark chocolate. the salt is there in every sip cutting certain flavors and adding a nice character.
Mouthfeel: too light, exceptionally clean.
Overall: a good beer but not a great beer. I know its a porter not a stout but it really needs a bit more body and malt character to stand up to these adjuncts. the salt is a really nice touch and really makes the flavors pop. all it needs is a bit more depth.

L: Pours a cola-colored brown, forming a brief but intense cocoa head. Scant layer of khaki lacing around the edge of the glass, with a light effervescent layer on top. Held to the light, this beer retains a fully opaque, near-black fudge hue.
S: Generous roasted malts, some light coffee and char, and chocolate. Subtle yet delightful.
T: Follows the nose. Roasted malt leads the way, complemented by coffee grounds and baker's chocolate. Astringent, with a pleasant char throughout. A trace of salt. Partially balanced by some molasses and a hint of vanilla. Smoky.
F: Medium- to full-bodied, bias to full. Smooth and silky mouthfeel. Light carbonation.
O: As judged against other 'imperial' porters, this is pretty darn good. I'd rate it above Flying Dog's iteration, but there are several similarities. And - if you are going to drink an Imperial Porter, especially one with a brazenly charred and bitter character, why not just jump into a Russian Imperial Stout instead? This beer is great but falls a bit short of its Imperial Stout cousins offered by Adroit Theory.

L: Poured from a bottle to a pint glass. Had a deep, dark brown / black color and a thick consistency. There was an inch of creamy, tan-colored, fairly long-lasting head. Below average lacing.
S: A very nice aroma of roasted malt, chocolate, a burnt quality, maple, and coffee.
T: Tasted of a good amount of roasted malt (present throughout), a tinge of salt, light maple syrup, a good amount of dark chocolate (sneakily so), some coffee, and a lot of the burnt quality. This is a much more subtle quality than I expected. The char is quite prevalent at first, but the chocolate and coffee creep into the flavor. Pretty tasty.
F: A decent amount of carbonation with a dry, smooth finish. Medium-bodied.
O: A solidly made, easy to drink stout. Worth a try.

Blackish body; thick, dense, light tan head; sheets of foam along the glass. Charred, dark grain nose; a bit of chocolate. Bitter, chocolaty flavors; a tad boozy; cocoa nibs. Medium-heavy body; silky; some alcohol heat; a bit sweet but finishes a bit dry at the finish.
A tasty, sweet dark grain treat.

Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Pours a very dark mahogany brown, appearing nearly opaque black in the glass with a fine, quarter finger dark khaki head with great retention and nice lacing. Aroma of dark toasted malt, molasses, milk chocolate, nuts; slightly boozy. Flavor is dark toasted malt with moderate char, dark molasses, oak, coffee, dark chocolate and a hint of salt. Finishes with dark charry malt and coffee. Medium bodied with light creaminess and good carbonation. A full bodied, nicely charred porter with good wood notes. I'm not getting much maple, but the salt is mildly clear, giving this a little bit of an oyster stout profile. Flavor is so full bodied it almost feels like the flavor drops off a bit into the finish, but probably because the start gets the palate ready for a big Russian stout. This is close, rich and flavorful. An excellent wood aged porter.

From the bottle of indeterminate age, it pours a dark brown, almost black with a modest head. The head reduces to a ring and stays a long time. Roasted malt, coffee, char and alcohol in the nose. The mouth revels in the roasty, malty flavor. Yum!

Poured from a bottle into a snifter, the beer is jet black, with a creamy, foamy, tan head that settles out into a clingy halo. Aromas of roasted coffee, charred wood, licorice, pepper spice, rich molasses, and bitter cacao nibs. Very layered aromatics. Flavors are heavily roasted and solidly smoky forward, with a peat and char blend in the backbone. Bitter and robust coffee notes, mixed with bittersweet cacao nib characteristics. Subtle rich, dark sweet notes from molasses and vanilla dart in and out. Very robust and full flavor profiles come through on a big, hearty, smooth body. The aftertaste is more of the roasted and smoky characteristics, but some more of those sweet characters start to come through. Smooth, slow, layered finish, with a solid linger of smoke and bitter, roasted coffee. Good beer.
