The beer pours a nice and creamy tan head that dissipate rather quickly. The head is a bit more plentiful than the last BHS release and benefits from this quite a bit. The beer itself is a nice black that appears to be more of a very dark chocolate brown that looks black. Anyway, the beer has a nice look and definitely makes this appealing.
The smell is very good and interesting. The smell has a nice mixture of tropical banana notes and traditional roasted malt and chocolate notes.. The roasted malt notes are a bit muted compared to the banana and the chocolate but it adds a nice bitterness to the smell. The banana smell is definitely the most noticeable but it doesn't hide the other notes there. There is also a bit of that whiskey note hovering around but it's fairly weak and easily overpowered by the banana.
The taste contains similar notes from the smell but the intensity is extremely different. The banana is fairly weak and easily overwhelmed by the other notes.. The chocolate and roasted malts still have a moderate presence but work with the whiskey note instead of the banana. The whiskey note is probably the strongest out of all of them and gives a slightly metallic note to the beer..
The feel is heavy bodied as is custom to the style. However, the body and texture are fairly thin due to the whiskey aging but it isn't bad; it just makes the beer more drinkable.
Overall, a pretty good and interesting beer. The ingredients work well together and create a nice dessert beer to enjoy.
