Thanks, Brian.

Pouring a dark brown with a dense, light brown head that falls off to a thin disk leaving little lacing, this looks good. The nose is great. The coffee and cocoa are noticeable up front, along with a moderate lactic sourness and a little bit of vanilla. Some earthy, musty, sulfury funk is present as well. Brown sugar and mild booze from the bourbon are present. This is also a prominently vinous beer - red wine, dark fruits, leather- are all present. The coffee character is moderate, fresh and medium roast in character and pairs nicely with the cacao nibs. Nice stuff.

The palate opens with a bog vinous sourness, juicy, lactic and mildy malic as well, bringing to mind red apples. The sourness is clean and mildly yogurty. Along with this is the mélange of coffee, cacao, vanilla, brown sugar and bourbon. The vanilla is a reserved and not as strong as I was expecting. Like most de Garde beers, the yeast tastes a little messy, but it works here, linking nicely the flavors from the sourness to the base beer and the adjuncts. The yeast does add a nice funk, earthy and mushroomy. The sulfur on the nose isn't particularly noticeable on the palate. Full in body, the finish is sour, clean (lactic and lemony) with lingering coffee and booze. Bourbon is most noticeable on the finish here. Really nice stuff. Reminds me in some ways of Oerbier Reserva.

750ml bottle

dark murky brown pour with an average head. this is the least carbonated de garde beer, by far, that i have had. its the only one that didnt have a massive amount of carbonation actually. smell is quite big on the sourness...its what you would expect a sour porter to smell like although that isnt really what this is. i didnt really dig the smell too much. the taste is a lot different though...its this chocolate/coffee/sour beer that is quite unique. it also grew on me the more i drank it. at first i wasnt sure if it was my thing...so give it time. 11.4% ABV is unreal, as it tastes more like 6-7%. body is medium and carbonation is mild.

overall another super interesting beer from de garde. recommended.

Thanks to Eric for sharing this one!

Once the bottle was opened, it smelled very nice and promising, like a fudgy chocolate cherry reduction. In the glass it was a little different, less chocolate, more tartness and coffee.

Black in the glass with a thin skim of frothy tan foam that dissipates after the first sip. Fleeting aroma, tart berry flavors alongside roastiness of malt and coffee. Feels substantial, lower carb level, somewhat vinous but falls more into stout territory than a dark red wine. Still not really sold on sour coffee brews in general, though the ones that seem to work better are more subtle, with coffee notes in the background.

Thanks to jmgrub for sharing this one at the Revenge Of Instant Replay bottleshare held at Instant Replay in Canoga Park, CA.

Pours a murky reddish-brown with a foamy tan head that settles to wisps of film on top of the beer. Tiny dots of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is sour with funk, blue cheese, cocoa, and fruit aromas. Taste is much the same with sour chocolate and fruit flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of acidity and roast bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer with solid flavors, but the smell is really funky and cheesy.
