Reviewing the Imperial Apricot Bu from de Garde Brewing out of Tillamook, Oregon.

Score: 98

2014 vintage bottle served in a Surly Darkness chalice and enjoyed on 01/09/15.

Appearance: Pours a cloudy apricot color with nice fade and tons of floating particulate. Minimal head off the pour, which totally settles. 2/5

Smell: Apricot for days plus some oak. Quite lovely. It's simple, but incredibly appetizing. 5/5

Taste: Tart apricot with a good pucker factor on the mid, which gets more intense as it warms. Notes of lemon too. A little vanilla, oak, and wine character on the finish too. Super lovely mix. 4.75/5

Mouthfeel: Light bodied, mild carbonation. Lovely sourness, without a heavy acidic character. Very dry finish. 4.75/5

Overall: Another home run of a fruited Bu Weisse from de Garde! This one rivals the likes of West Ashley and Fou Foune in deliciousness, albeit less complex than either.

Cost: $10 for a 750 ml bottle.

A-Cloudy orange, some carbonation, one finger head

S-Holy apricots. Apricots everywhere. The citrus is amazing. Some grass and mild tart notes as well.

T-Amazing apricots. The flavor is spot on. More tart than sour and a slight grass.

M-Medium to lighter, some carbonation.

O-Wow. This was spot on. If it was a tad more sour the beer would have been perfect as this might have been the best apricot beer I've ever had.

First had this at de garde winter release an was not impressed. Was an older bottle release. Today I had this on tap from the recent release and wow! Much more apricot flavor and aroma. Beautiful beer

This has got to be one of the most unique beers I've had to date. I shared this one at a recent tasting alongside the Imperial Hop Bu, which paled in comparison.

Popping the cap revealed a goopy ring of what was presumably apricot residue around the rim of the bottle mouth. Pouring yielded an orange-copper color, murky but bright, with pours past the middle of the bottle giving quite a large amount of pulpy apricot floaties. A fluffy white head receded to a small ring, lacing the glass nicely. In the nose, apricot dominated, with lesser notes of oak and wildflowers, lightly toasted wheat. The taste was no joke...apricots and lots of them, more pronounced than in any other apricot beer I've ever tasted, a mix of fresh apricot meat and candied apricot, more sugary sweet than tart/sour; secondary flavors of fresh oak, toasted wheat, and some hay funk. Medium body, juicy mouthfeel. Overall: amazing. I would foam-dome this all day every day if I could.
