A golden wild ale from our Lambic inspired program. This blend consisted of one 18 month aged and one 24 month aged second use Gin barrels. A bold Brett presence with a moderate acidity, nuanced oak, and subtle herbal hints.

poured from a 750mL bottle into a snifter. pours a foggy gold with almost three fingers of frothy white foam head. heavy funk on the nose - blue cheese, musty blankets, wet sox. first de Garde in a bit so it’s hitting pretty hard. taste has some of that funk but it’s balanced out nicely by the gin barrel. i don’t get a lot of botanicals but i definitely get some pine and spruce tip flavors. highly carbonated, lambic-type mouthfeel. not bad by any means but it’s almost always a little too much carb for me with their beers. this is tasty though. somewhat refreshing in flavors even with the dG funk and the dry gin barrel component.

Clear sparkling light gold with a tall, bright white foam.
Very woody and also botanical, with a resinous funk that contrasts with a sharp seeming acidity that's dichotomously somehow pleasant. The funk is like the woodiness of a barn door without the intensity of full on horse blanket or barnyard that many de Garde bottles express.
The crisp medium-light body aids the acidity by its super airy and filling froth, finishing cleanly semi-dry.

Thanks, Sam. Bottled March 2020.
A clear orange with a dense, white head with excellent retention and minimal lacing, this looks great. The nose is a delicious mix of funk and gin. Bitter preserved lemon, mildly lactic and with a strong, earthy funk that's paired with a gin barrel character that's a blend of orange peel, quite a bit of juniper, some coriander. Really full bodied gin nose, moreso on the palate. A mildly grainy, mildly sweet, mildly grist-heavy, wheat note, more prominent than most other de Garde beers I've had, is immediately noticeable. This is followed by a bitterness with a blend of grapefruit, bitter orange, and a dry, earthy funk. The gin appears next, with lots of juniper, some spice and an orange peel note that works nicely with the base sourness. Oak tannins temper the fragrant gin notes, with a bit of tannins that linger in the finish. Overcarbonated as heck, this takes a while to die down to the point where it can be drunk pleasurably, but when it does, boy, it delivers. A bitter, oily grapefruit feel carries all the gin flavors wonderfully. An enjoyable beer.

Overcarbonated, took quite a while to pour. Beyond that, absolutely delicious. Unfiltered golden body. Leather, lemon, hay, grain, dry juniper bushes in the high desert, a touch of pepper. So complex. Lighter bodied, a bit heavy on carb.

Appearance: poured a bright peach color with no translucence. Very tall fluffy white head but disappeared instantly.
Smell: at the nose there’s heavy fruity funk and oaky must. Subtle herbs with faint chamomile and zest.
Taste: sweet, tart and mildly acidic. Notes of ripe pitted fruits comes to mind and then it completes with soft herbal notes. Also a lingering oak and rind of citrus after the finish.
Mouthfeel: ample carbonation with a light body.
Overall: there’s just faint notes of gin but I think the funk from the spontaneous fermentation really takes over. Still very pleasant to drink, very easy on the palate, not too acidic.

750ml bottle thanks to Rick. Pale golden, slight orange hue, fizzy head fades to skin. Aroma is lime, juniper. Taste comes on like a tart gin and tonic,

This was something of a gusher, so that takes away a little of the look and feel for me. After cleaning up the slow creep of bubbly that came out of the bottle - poured into a tulip.
L: Golden color with significant head (again, some gushing that made it hard to get over).
S: Smells great. Juniper, which I associate with the gin.
T: I generally don't like gin, so it's generally saying something for me to give this a 4. The barrel presence works really well with this sour ale. I liked it better cold than as it warmed, because the gin becomes a little more overpowering as it warms.
F: Again - a ton of foam burst through when I got the cork out, and while that didn't completely take away from the body of the beer, it was noticeable.
O: Overall it was refreshing and enjoyable. I have a second bottle that I'm curious to see what happens with it.
