750 ml bottle into a tulip.

quite carbonated but not too badly after you open it. pours a light murky red with a nice carbonated head. warning! pour completely horizontally! smell is quite tart and the cranberries are very apparent. taste starts out very tart then the cranberry flavor comes through...but that in itself is quite tart as well.finishes with a lasting awesome classical berliner style kick...just lovely. higher carbonation, light body.

overall just another home run from my new favorite brewery!

Reviewing the Cran Bu Weisse from De Garde Brewing out of Tillamook, Oregon.

Score: 94

2014 vintage bottle served in a Dark Lord snifter and enjoyed on 03/12/14.

Appearance: Pours a cloud, dull pink color with nice fade and minimal head. Minimal lacing and retention too. I really dig the color. 4.25/5

Smell: Cranberries, vinegar, oak, a hint of lemon and a kiss of fruit juice and lacto. Really nice mix here, with a prominent cranberry character and juiciness. 4.5/5

Taste: Tastes like mildly tart cranberry juice with complexities of oak, lemon, grape skins, wheat and a touch of fruit. Less lacto than the nose, which is mostly constrained to the initial upfront kick of flavor. The flavor profile on this brew is a nicely balanced mix that is sessionable and flavorful, but not too big or overpowering. Finishes with lasting cranberry flavor with a lemon twist. 4.5/5

Mouthfeel: Light bodied, nice carbonation. Light tartness, a little fruitiness and sweetness. Very juicy mouthfeel. 4.5/5

Overall: Another excellent fruited variant of "Bu." They're all pretty great, though my favorites thus far have been Raspberry and Boysenberry. Seek this out if you get the chance.

Cost: $11 for a 500 ml bottle.

A Berliner double header tonight, thanks to Brian. 3.8% abv., this specific batch was released at the opening of the tasting room.

Pouring an orange amber with a cranberry pink head that falls off to a ring, this looks decent. Like the Blu Bu Weiss that preceded it, this is on the funkier side for the style. A big cranberry sourness and fruitiness is present, along with the Berliner base of wheat, lactic acid and a little yogurt. Funk is pronounced, with a bigger clove note than the blu bu Weiss, a little bit of a Brett like smoke and plastic even, and some earth. Some juniper from the gin is evident. Very nice.

The palate is sour, with the blend of cranberry juice and yogurt refreshing. The fruit character is really good here, the essence of cranberries is captured here. This is followed by a blend of clove, smoke, juniper, spruce and a pronounced yogurty lactic sourness. The juniper and clove linger on in the finish, along with the clean lactic sourness and moderate fruit character. While the gin botanicals do add a pleasing complexity, I do believe that the beer would be better off without them. While light in body, this beer does have some chewiness, a trait I've found in at least 2 other of this brewer's beers. An enjoyable effort, one I would not turn down if presented the opportunity to revisit.

Many thanks to BA ithinkimasofa for hooking me up with some de garde growlers. 32oz growler poured into a snifter. The brew appears a clouded reddish pink color like ruby red grapefruit juice. A few large bubbles dissipate quickly in the typical berliner fashion.

The aromatics are quite fruity with a lemony lacto feel and yogurt-like appeal to minor footy grain or cheese quality. The advertised cranberry aspect does not jump out of the glass but it is present enough with a fruity tinge. A very mild diaper note and earthen aspect evolves as it warms up.

The flavor is very tart with a hint of lemon and earthy cranberry that adds its own level of tartness. Some greek yogurt notes along with mild feta and wheat. For as bitey and tart bordering on acedic upfront, it really finishes with a grain presence that provides a lasting fresh grain feel across the back.

This is light bodied and modest to lightly carbonated. Overall a solid and unique example. However, for how tart this is upfront and finishes clean, I am surprised by the lack of flavor in the "middle" if you know what i mean? Interesting and worth seeking out. 32oz of this can be drank effortlessly.

Growler shared by jmgrub - thanks. Aged in gin barrel.

A: Pours a hazy cranberry with just a few (less than 12) white bubbles clinging to the rim. No lace. Would have liked to see more carbonation.

N: Cranberry fruit punch with faint but present juniper notes from the gin barrel aging.

T: Bright cranberry fruit skin with tartness, some wheaty grains, slight lemony citrus. Like a sweet-tart candy without the sweetness. Juniper emerges late.

M: Light body and carbonation. Fruity and tart finish.

O: Nice and refreshing. Unique offering. Easy drinking.
