750 mL bottle poured into a snifter.

Appearance - Murky orange. Small head. Gone quickly.

Smell - Pungent hop and acidity. Orange and grapefruit. A little funky.

Taste - Hoppy flavor up front. Grapefruit. Very bitter. Citrusy sourness.

Mouthfeel - Moderately sour. Medium body.

Overall - Very tasty and a dramatic improvement over the last De Garde beer I had, Bu Weisse.

Big thanks for this one, Frank. Ever since sharing some De Garde in Portland, I've been hoping to try more.

Pours a murky orange. Lighter on the carbonation, but not light enough to worry. (Probably carbed up some on the trip cross country.)

Unique smells of brett with some geuezey musty acidity. Mingled with tangerine and citrus rinds, pine mixing in as well. I'm looking for gin barrel herbs/spices, and they're there. Really intoxicating aroma.

Tastes don't live up to the aroma, unfortunately. Things muddle on the tongue, the flavors aren't as distinct as in the nose. I keep sipping, keep trying to replicate the smell, but it's hard to find, nothing really pops. Still, it hints at the beauty of the aroma, some IPA mixed with musty/acidic wild ale vibes and the gin barrel is a definite player.

I wanted the feel to be richer, thicker, and fully support the aromatics. I think they should have bumped this up to 7-8%. (Banks was 7.2, this would have been better if it were too).

Banks spoiled me. But this is still a really good beer, and once they dial in this "Gin barrel aged india wild ale" thing, look out.

Bottle shared by callmemickey. Thanks again Ryan!

Pours a very cloudy, murky dark golden orange color with almost brown edges and a one finger, yellowish-beige head that quickly settles into lasting ring Sporadic spotty lacing left behind.

Really earthy, musty aroma with an interesting combination of resnous oil, piney hops and musty wild yeast. Very funky and sweaty with damp oak, grass, pine needle, brett-y bugs and subtle lactic cheesiness. I shouldn't like the way this beer smells but it's somehow really appealing.

Medium body with resinous, grassy pine flavor along with prominent musty brett and other funky bugs. Very dry and sticky with hops and funky yeast notes really coming through. Subtle lactic cheesiness and some sweet tropical fruit on the back end. More sweetness as the palate adjusts. Aggressively flavored, complex and well balanced. I'm looking forward to trying more stuff from this brewery.

A: Hazy copper-orange. Raises a modest head that recedes to a thin ring and film of bubbles.

S: The interplay here between piney hops and the gin barrel influence is very nice. Some light citrus notes round things out and add a touch of sweetness to the nose.

T: Again, piney, resiny hops combine nicely with juniper and other botanicals from the gin barrel, with the brett contributing an earthy base for everything else to play out. There's a lovely sense of place that come through in this beer, pulling you to the conifer forests of the Oregon coast range.

M: Carbonation is a touch low in this bottle, and that might be the biggest flaw in this beer. There's a well-rounded body providing structure, but a dry finish leaving lingering flavors of pine.

O: A very nice beer from De Garde and a great foray into the world of bottling. Hoppy wild beers are tough to do well, in my opinion, and this one manages the contrasts quite well.
