Poured to a medium head with a tan color which has god retention and some lacing. Color was a nice dark brown to mahogany color. Aroma was very sweet and fruity with strong notes of banana and malt. Taste was sweet and fruity with strong banana and some malt and chocolate notes with a hint of spice. Nice medium to full mouth feel with a dry bitter / sweet aftertaste.

Yields a finger’s worth of deep tan foam, mostly dense, tiny bubbles with an even surface, slightly poor retention, the lacing is a thin sheet which gently slides down the glass in one piece. The liquid is a semi-murky yellowish brown, at times you might mistake the particulate for the fat bubbles which are scattered throughout. The nose could not possibly smell more like banana bread to Entenmann’s banana crumb loaf, loaded with chocolate and caramel accents, glazed nuts, then a dollop of plum to maraschino cherry fruit, dense nostril presence and quite long as well. Full-bodied, thankfully those big bubbles translate into active carbonation which relieves excess weight during the mouth entry. That said, sweetness rules with banana, banana, banana and chocolate, caramel, vanilla bean, and a roasted quality which is reminiscent of coffee beans. The fruit flavors less distinct and receded here. There’s also something vegetal going on, but in a fresh “garden” vegetables way, not a flaw per se and a minor element. As one would expect, a beer to be consumed with certain expectations and used for clear purposes, not a “just pop a frosty” option. Taken at face value, it delivers what it promises.

Pours chestnut brown color with reddish highlights where light hits it and a massive 3 finger tan foamy head that was thick and faded very slowly, leaving very good lacing and rings as it went down.

Smells of roasted malts, chocolate, cocoa powder, vanilla, roasted chestnuts and other nuts, caramel, sweet malt and other sweet fruit notes; really nice and sweet like dessert, it was a solid complex aroma.

Tastes like it smells, with roasted chestnuts and other nuts up front, toasted malts, chocolate, cocoa powder, vanilla, peat moss, caramel, molasses, wheat bread, hay or earthy notes, dark fruit like plum or a raisin, and then finally the banana; the sweet banana and fruit flavors have a funky yeast twinge to it but manage to still taste like a piece of burnt banana nut bread. It really is like drinking burnt banana nut bread, and I find this very tasty and enjoyable.

Mouthfeel is creamy with light carbonation, a slick feel and a medium body that is in the thin side but packed with roasted malt and nutty flavors.

Overall I was very pleasantly surprised at how good this beer was, and for a real niche almost gimmick brew it was very tasty and achieved the goal of tasting like an actual piece of banana nut bread. This is not a beer for everyone, nor a session beer, but it was good overall and worth trying for any adventurous beer drinker.

Bottle from Bert's
Pours a solid dark brown with garnet highlights at the edges and a smallish off white head that dissipates rather quickly. My God that smells exactly like banana bread, that is an awesome aroma! Sweet caramelized brown sugar and banana with hints of nuts and vanilla with a touch of earthiness. Medium body with a moderate level of carbonation and a sweet bubbly mouthfeel. Loved the aroma, the earthiness in the flavor which I assume is the maca root distracts me a bit from enjoying this more.
