The smell is very banana-like. The taste is like a liquid banana Laffy Taffy candy, with a slight nutty aftertaste. Decent tasting, but I cannot see myself reaching for this all that often. Worth a try.

5 oz on tap at Top Hops NYC

A- Mid brown
S- Banana, pecans, malts
T- Boom, the banana hits, but then is washed by malts and toasted nuts. Vivid imagination of digging into banana bread. Spot on.
M- Good, medium brown

O- loved the 5 oz pour, but could get too much too fast.

A - Dark cola brown pour with a tan colored foam. Lacing rolls down the glass. Foam retention is solid.

S - Strong notes of fresh banana, and some caramel. Light malt aroma finishes off an impressive smell.

T - Certainly tastes like bananas. Notes of caramel and pecans make this a tasty brown ale. Finish has a malty sweetness.

M - I found while this was a nice beer, I could not see myself having more than one. Too sweet to be sessionable.

O - Great beer to have for banana flavoring. Similar to Wells, but with more flavor at the expense of being less smooth.

From the 12 fl. oz. bottle. Sampled on August 30, 2014.

It pours a dark brown with a lingering tan head that leaves plenty of lacing as it fades.

That aroma is something else! Bananas, nuttiness, and roasted chocolate. No bitter hops to talk about but these other esters are fascinating as a team.

Medium body.

And here come those bananas in the taste which jump out in front of the pack. The nuttiness and chocolate characters express themselves but not as forward as the bananas. To me this is what craft beer is all about. Merging together some unexpected ingredients and seeing what happens. And in this case it was a success. Not my regular cup of tea (or pint of beer) but definitely interesting.

Poured into an oversized wine glass. Color was a very dark brown, looked almost like a thin stout. No real head to speak of, thin lacings on top with a few collected on the sides. Dominant smell was banana. Smelled very much of banana bread with the hints of nuts of wheat. Small hint of lactose sugar as well. Flavor was a fake sweet banana, with a bit of brown bread in the back. The sweet was almost too much, made it more a savoring beer. Once again, mouth feel reminded me of a stout more than a brown ale. Overall, not bad. A much sweeter beer than expected, but not at all bad.

Pours chestnut brown color with reddish highlights where light hits it and a massive 3 finger tan foamy head that was thick and faded very slowly, leaving very good lacing and rings as it went down.

Smells of roasted malts, chocolate, cocoa powder, vanilla, roasted chestnuts and other nuts, caramel, sweet malt and other sweet fruit notes; really nice and sweet like dessert, it was a solid complex aroma.

Tastes like it smells, with roasted chestnuts and other nuts up front, toasted malts, chocolate, cocoa powder, vanilla, peat moss, caramel, molasses, wheat bread, hay or earthy notes, dark fruit like plum or a raisin, and then finally the banana; the sweet banana and fruit flavors have a funky yeast twinge to it but manage to still taste like a piece of burnt banana nut bread. It really is like drinking burnt banana nut bread, and I find this very tasty and enjoyable.

Mouthfeel is creamy with light carbonation, a slick feel and a medium body that is in the thin side but packed with roasted malt and nutty flavors.

Overall I was very pleasantly surprised at how good this beer was, and for a real niche almost gimmick brew it was very tasty and achieved the goal of tasting like an actual piece of banana nut bread. This is not a beer for everyone, nor a session beer, but it was good overall and worth trying for any adventurous beer drinker.

On-tap 8/5/2014 at British Beer Company in Walpole, MA served in a tulip glass.

A: The beer is a dark brown color, with a large off-white head that fades slowly and leaves a thick lace on the glass.

S: The aroma contains strong maple and banana along with chocolate, nuts, caramelized malts and a touch of hops.

T: The taste starts out sweet with flavors of maple, chocolate and bananas. Then a hearty roasted malt character comes in. The hops presence is mild but complementary and brings some balance. The after-taste is slightly sweet.

M: Crisp and smooth, medium body, medium carbonation, finish is slightly sticky.

O: Tasty, goes down easily, not too filling, mild kick, good variation of style, this is a decent beer to drink for a while if you’re in the mood for the flavoring.
