A Belgian ale brewed with maca root and agave. A South American combination of male enhancement and sweetness. Nice. A respectably clear golden brew shading towards amber with a billowing tight head. Slow fade and lots of lace. Mild carbonation and a bit of particle suspension. Aroma is classic BSPA. Belgian pilsner malt, a spicy peppery sweetness. As it warms lovely bread and sweet rolls. mix with a Belgian yeast ester that has light funk and notes of apples and white grapes. A pear tinged alcoholic sweetness is the first and only clue to the potency of this brew. A hint of mild bananas. Superb herbal hops flow to an earthy balancing bitterness. Taste follow suit. Broad malt front is followed by a nutty breadiness. Yeast esters add layers of fruity complexity and lots of cover for the high abv. The agave is no doubt a contributor to the smooth sweetness that overlays the whole construct. Hops are big and expert in balancing a big beer. Earth and herbs, they lay in and grab hold of the sweet components and give a finishing trademark that is dry and clean. A big hop presence that is not overpowering. Feel is not quite thick but medium weight and a beautifully carbonated. Crisp and and smooth. It breaks it up well. Drinkability is superb as it goes down easier than a beer of this strength should. This is a viable alternative to THE BSPA and a if the maca shows itself is could become the go to man's strong drink. Well done Andean Brewing Company.

Served on-tap at Draught 55 in New York, NY

A: Pours a relatively clear deep golden yellow in color with light amounts of gentle visible carbonation near the surface of the beer and some apricot highlights. The beer has a half finger tall foamy off-white head that slowly reduces to a medium sized patch of thick film surrounded by a very thin film covering the majority of the remainder of the surface of the beer and a medium thick ring at the edges of the glass. Moderate amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Moderate aromas of slightly bready pale malts along with Belgian yeast and light fruits (apple and white grape). There are some lighter hints of mild alcohol and light to moderate amounts of herbal hops.

T: Upfront there are moderate flavors of slightly sweet bready and pale malts with some notes of light fruit sweetness (apple, pear, and white grape). I do not get any specific flavors from the agave but the beer was as sweet as I would have expected had it been made with candi sugar. There are some light to moderate flavors of earthiness and moderate amounts of herbal hop flavors without much bitterness. Light hints of alcohol.

M: Slightly heavier than medium bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Smooth with light amounts of dryness in the finish.

O: An interesting fusion of a BSPA with South American ingredients (Agave and Maca root) - especially so since Maca is often used to increase fertility (not sure how many BAs are looking for that though)... Not bad, not sure that I would be in a hurry to have another one but glad I gave it a try.

Poured to a nice, off white, creamy head with great retention and lacing. Appearance was a hazy, golden / honey color. Aroma had notes of bread and yeast with some sour thrown in. Taste was of yeast and malt with and alchol note. Mouthfeel was medium with a yeasty aftertaste.
