A 330ml bottle with a BB of Aug 2014. ABV is stated as 7.3%. Picked up a little while back from Trembling Madness in York. Described as a black IPA that includes rye in the recipe.

Poured into a Duvel tulip. Bottle conditioned. A very dark brown hue that appears pitch black in the glass. Produces a vast head of creamy light-brown foam with good retention; this slowly subsides to a thick surface layer. Nice lacing. Aroma of intense, fruity hop notes with hints of white grape, lime, subtle grapefruit, citrus, mild pine and faint tropical fruit. Underpinned by a touch of dark malt, delicate, spicy rye and earthy yeast. Entrancing.

Tastes of concentrated aromatic hops with a powerful bitter finish. Notes of pine resin, grapefruit, peel, citrus, white grape, subtle weed, faint tropical fruit, mild grain, a twinge of rye, dark malt, earthy yeast and stewed hops. Highly attenuated and very dry, followed by a spicy, hop-driven bitterness upon swallowing. Mouthfeel is smooth, dry and tingly, with decent carbonation, prickly hop oils and an average body for the strength. Papery yeast coats the palate. Very astringent, with an aftertaste of bitter aromatic hops, pine, earthy yeast and faint malt.

Hmmmm, bit of a mixed bag. It looks fantastic and the aroma is great, with lots of fruity aroma hops and malty undertones. However, the flavour is less balanced and overly noisy; the hops border on harsh and there's way too much yeast. The malt can't hold its own. Rather insubstantial body. Not the best black IPA I've ever tried - sometimes you can have too much of a good thing. No need to hunt it down.

Very dark brown.
Chocolate and hops.
Burnt malt with hoppy bitterness. Dry and spicy.
No real balance but it is interesting.
One bottle is enough for me.

Pours nearly black with moderate tan head which dissipates slowly. Almost neutral malty aroma with hints of coffee. Tastes of dark chocolate and coffee, with a bitter dryness. Finishes dry and bitter.

Discribed as a black IPA, I wasn't particularly keen on the dark colour, a bit less dark than expected.

The aroma, was frankly a bit burned, and molasses like. There was the citrus tone of hop also, and an odd peat, that you'd expect in a scotch. I wasn't that keen

Taste wise, I like the hops, the toasted malt adds a depth. Certainly intriguing, but one bottle was enough. Gets extra points for being interesting.

Lively in the mouth, and solid, with a hint of the alcohol.

Overall it's something interesting to try, very different, intriguing, an occasional interesting diversion.

Pours a dark brown/black colour with a short lived off-white head.

Smells fresh, grassy, piney and fruity.

Tastes of strong, fresh US hops - pine, citrus, lots of resin. Quite a soft, dark malt backbone contrasts with the sharpness of the hops without overpowering.

Overall quite a nice one.

I believe this beer I tried called itself the coconut edition of Fade To Black. I'm not sure if it was technically a different beer.

The bodywas jet black, with a large foamy, off-white head that dissipated quickly.

Not much aroma, to be honest. I was expecting a rich smell to go with the fantastic appearance. The taste was bitter but not overly hoppy, rich but not overly chocolatey. No obvious coconut flavours despite its name. Very low carbonation.

A decent beer, not as rich or as full bodied as I was expecting but recommended never the less.
