Draft pint at Green Lady, quick review from notes.
Bright saturated orange gold color, with a long lasting head of parchment colored foam. Sudsy surface texture and lasting sticky lacing in the glass.
Mild aroma, light Belgian yeast, pepper and nondescript spice.
Taste is similarly mild, very simple with some yeast character driving it and basic 2-row or similar malt base. Single being the first rung on the Trappist ladder to Quad, I didn't expect a whole lot of complexity. Kind of light bodied, yeasty and somewhat crisp with a dry aftertaste. Simple beers have a time and place, this one seemed better suited with food, or to quench after a long bike ride. That said it's not something i'll seek out, liked P-2 a little better.

Served in a shaped pint glass at Firkin.
Finally getting around to trying my first Penrose beer, and it's a single. Right on, don't have many of those 'round here these days. It pours a partly cloudy pale brass topped by a finger of white foam. The nose comprises flowers, mild grass, light orange rind, mild biscuit, and a touch of soap. The taste brings in more of the same, the soap unfortunately coming to the fore, backed up by a bit of chalk, followed by the flowers, the biscuit, and a few soft kisses of Belgian yeast. The body is a rather light medium, with a light moderate carbonation and a sorta/kinda drying finish. Overall, this beer just didn't do it for me. When the only flavors that immediately come to mind are soap and chalk, something's amiss. To me, there just wasn't enough of a yeast character for things to really work. Still, I look forward to trying more of what Penrose has to offer.
