12 ounce bottle - $3.99 at Total Wine & More in Kennesaw, Georgia.

Appearance: Pours a very dark brown body, with a few garnet hints at the far edges, and, a small-sized, brief beige head.

Smell: Chocolate, cola nose (and cola appearance, really) with hints of toasted dark bread, fine sugars, with background touches of herb and plump raisins.

Taste: Chocolate glazed rich dark bread toastiness, scantly nutty, with some additional caramelly sweetness, as well as hints of the added molasses and honey. Very mildly roasty. A little raisiny dark fruitiness precludes a minor herbal hint and light balancing bitterness. Slowly, softly dries out on the finish.

Mouthfeel: Medium-light body. Medium-plus carbonation, a bit tingly, prickly.

Overall: Good beer. Though a bit cost prohibitive for me at four clams per bottle, were it to be a bit more reasonable, I would readily make this a standard addition to the fridge. It's got an inviting maltiness bolstered by the molasses and honey, yet it remains reasonably dry and nimble on the tongue, thanks to the healthy carbonation.

A - Deep ruby mahogany in color, Scurry, despite it's darkness, is still clear. The short ivory head puts the beer's name into action, disappearing rather rapidly.

S - Rich Munich malts bring breadiness straight to the front of the nose, brushed with notes of smooth wheat and chocolate; a milk chocolate truffle perhaps. Clover honey sweetness peeks through with traces of delicious, delicious molasses following behind.

T - Scurry, with all it's ingredients, has a lot going on in the flavor. Big malty breadiness is the showcase of the beer but its chocolate notes stem directly from this, wonderfully blending with honey sweetness and a splash of molasses along the finish.

M - Wheat and flaked oats contribute a beautifully smooth, almost creamy feel to this medium-bodied beer while nearly unnoticeable hops keep everything in check with balance as Scurry finishes with clean balance.

O - Altbiers aren't done a whole lot but Off Color's Scurry is a very nice, unique take on this German style, keeping in line with the malt and hop profile while spicing things up with wheat and flaked oats for a smooth body and honey and molasses for sweetness and a little sumthin' special.

Pours an opaque deep brown with a pillowy, beige head that dissipates slowly.

Aroma is dominated by oats and nutty malt, with a touch of caramel, chocolate, and deep molasses notes adding complexity. The balance is sweet and nutty, but there's almost a smoky character from the molasses. Floral hops are subtle.

Flavor reveals more chocolate notes that linger throughout, accented nicely by oats. Nutty malt carries into the lightly dry finish. Notes of tart cherries become evident as it warms.

Body is thick and rich, smooth, with low carbonation.

Didn't expect the tart character. Definitely malt dominant, with enough dryness at the finish to counter the suggested sweetness from the aroma. If that off flavor weren't there, this would fare better.

appearance: pretty darn dark. Some cola highlights around the edges. Modest tan head.
smell: Subdued. Some toasty malt and hints of molasses and cocoa.
taste: just like the nose. Subtle to be sure.
overall: Pleasant and fits the altbier profile. A "smooth" and "delicate" beer. Nothing bad to say about this. Pleasant enough though nothing to get excited about either.
