Just cause it's dark and German doesn't mean it's an alt. Based on the obscure Kottbusser style of beer, this surprisingly dry beer retains all the aroma and nuance of honey (from bees) and molasses (not from bees) creating a perception of sweetness through cool, controlled fermentation. Because we're sweet enough damn it.

12 ounce bottle. Served in a nonic pint glass, the beer pours a clear mahogany/ruby red color with about an inch and a half light tan head. Head retention is decent, and there's a small amount of lacing. Aroma is nice, the brew smells like honey, molasses, chocolate, and some nuts. The brew tastes like honey, molasses, earthiness, chocolate, nuts, and some dark bread. It's a mostly sweet tasting beer. Mouthfeel/body is medium, it's smooth, a bit syrupy and easy enough to drink. I think it's a good brew. It's the first beer I've had from Off Color Brewing, and hopefully it won't be the last.

A- dark- reddish brown with visibility through the body and a light tan head.

S- light roasted malts, hint of coco and caramel

T- light roasted malts, caramel, toffee, honey, coco, a bit of bitterness.

M- light-medium bodied, nice and smooth. a bit thin and water.

O- I really enjoy the taste of this brew, a little thin in the mouth but it is very drinkable.

On-tap at Alewife, Long Island City, NY

A: The beer is clear but very dark red in color (black when viewed from afar). It poured with a quarter finger high tan head that died down and left a collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Light aromas of malts are present in the nose along with notes of malt extracts.
T: The taste is very similar to the smell and has flavors of malts and malts extracts (without any sweetness).
M: It feels nearly medium-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer seems to have very non-descript aromas and flavors and doesn't stand out compared to any of the other beers I've had in this style.

P: Dark mahogany body with a small fast fading taupe head. Slippery lacing that slides along the glass.

S: Super bready, gingerbread, vanilla wafers, cinnamon, clove, black strap molasses, figs, dark chocolate, oats, faint bubble-mint gum and hints of burnt hair.

T/M: Taste follows the nose but brings more chocolate malted balls, molasses, and slightly smoked wood. Vivacious and medium bodied that finishes semi dry.

O: Really good beer that surprisingly comes in a six pack. Love that! The aroma is on point and the taste delivers as well. I would regularly drink this but the price is a tad steep. However, you get what you pay for. Cheers!
