Notes/Commercial Description:
Just cause it's dark and German doesn't mean it's an alt. Based on the obscure Kottbusser style of beer, this surprisingly dry beer retains all the aroma and nuance of honey (from bees) and molasses (not from bees) creating a perception of sweetness through cool, controlled fermentation. Because we're sweet enough damn it.

Pour is dark brown with red edges and a fizzy tan head. Nose is mostly molasses and notes of coffee bean and roast. Taste is more sticky molasses and strong roasted malt notes. Some cooked brown sugar through a finish that thins a bit. Medium body with assertive carbonation thinning in the finish.

Picked up at my local KS bottle shop. 12 oz bottle with the most adorable label ever! The label mentions honey, molasses, and flaked oats as adjuncts with Munich, chocolate, and wheat for the malt bill. Looks/sounds awesome. Poured into a Tallgrass Brewing cervoise glass.

Appearance: Poured down the side produced two fingers of sudsy tan head with a clear, dark walnut body.

Smell: Lots of dark roasted malts. Like a crusty black bread crust. Very nutty, with notes of oat and some coffee. Finishes with fruity some lager yeast.

Taste: More of those awesome dark malty notes up front. Toasted oats, bread crust, some coffee, nutty brown malts. Maybe a bit of molasses. Some slight bitterness with that sulfry lager character. Very nice bready finish.

Mouthfeel: Medium light feel. Smooth.

Overall: A solid ale with a really fun label. While I didn’t get much in the way of honey or molasses the dark malty notes were fantastic. I am not too familiar with lagers, but the lager yeast wasn’t too prominent over the malts, which I really enjoyed. Recommended to all fans of malty lagers. Enjoyed while several ounces of snow accumulated outside my door.

Appearance is a deep amber with white head. Nose feature dry roasted malts with light honey notes and chocolate. Very malty. The taste follows in suit with the nose. Heavy on roasted malts, with light honey notes shining throughout. Very well balanced. Mouthfeel is moderate with light carbonation. Overall, a nice take on the style. Definitely worth trying!
