Troublesome – Spiced Wheat Beer (4.3%) - Off Color Brewing (Illinois)
App: Solid golden pour with slight greenish hues to the extremities of the glass. Head is very thin. Weak ring of bubbles clings to the edge. No lacing at all.
Smell: Aroma is bright, grainy, and slightly sour with some strong aroma of lemon and a slight pepper like characteristic. Definitely got that sour twinge high in the nose.
Taste: Taste is bright, with a cider like acetic quality that shines through. Coriander lends a slight spiciness which compliments the semi-dry finish very nicely. Almost akin in acidity to white grape juice, with a similar puckering quality. The thing that makes this beer great is the finale. After the initial hints of white pepper, lemon and grainy sweetness, the hops bitterness appears and mingles with a lacto sourness long after the swallow. This might be the ultimate porch on a hot summer afternoon beer. Top notch.
Mouth: Medium bodied but slightly slick. Slightly dry and spicy in the aftertaste. Carbonation is overall very low, but this brew never feels oily or like it's sticking to your tongue.
Home tasting, 12oz bottle into Snifter. 4/9/14.

On tap at Jakes in Chicago. Served in a pint glass without a head. Clear very light pale yellow in color. Not much going on in the aroma department. Hints of wheat-grainy cereal. Hints of lactic acid...but very weak. Taste is just like the aroma with a weak salt finish. Light bodied, with a zingy quality. Very low level of lactic acid.
A very simple easy to drink brew. Not a lot of character but refreshing on a hot day.

Bright orange color, medium white head. Aroma is sweet, peppery, spicy, flowery, and generally pleasant. Very likable thus far.... Taste is crisply dry, floral and spice, nice white bread malty, and well balanced. Just a touch of salt makes things interesting. No overwhelming flavors and nicely light. Perfect for Spring and very easy to drink.
