Formerly Piston Espresso Stout

Behold the vibrant glare of life’s everlasting penchant for satisfaction’s zenith. We kneel before the temple of your desires and proudly offer you this gallant chalice. This cold black steel melds rich caramel and honey flavors with lactose sugars and just enough charred black malt to forge defining stout balance. The addition of a custom blend of roasted coffee beans, from Asheville’s PennyCup Coffee, offers bold roast, dark fruit and the mild smokiness that drives the aroma. Sip slow, sit long.

Pours a viscous pitch black creamy light tan head. Glorious and robust dark roast espresso aroma. Taste is sweet, bitter, chocolate all at once! Perfectly balanced! Perfect mouthfeel with very delicate carbonation. Overall, I’m a Burial “groupie” and this exceeds their incredibly high expectations on my part! A must try and have!

Picked up a four-pack from the South Slope location cooler 12-7-22 for $18. Canned 11-18-23; consumed 6-10-23. Traded three away. Cold stored since purchase.

Beer poured coffee black with a nice tan head.

Nose is steeped espresso forward.

Taste is very nice. A large malt base takes on the lactose and coffee additions very nicely. Finishes balanced from the combination of the espresso and adequate hopping.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied and silky smooth.

Overall a really nice beer. It appears this needs to be consumed pretty quickly as the espresso seemed to have faded. Definitely will look into getting this again next year.

12 ounce can in a snifter.

Pours a stand alone black color with dark brown trim and head. No retention but decent lacing.

Great smell. Strong espresso with a sweet froth. Light char on the roasted malt.

The caramel flavor sweetens the coffee and roasted malt flavors.

Smooth and rich, medium bodied.

This one rested outside the fridge for 45 minutes before cracking it open, enhancing the aromas and flavors while softening its 10% abv. It made for a nice drink.

Griddle is my first beer from Burial. We have been following their amazing stout releases and finally got hands on their espresso stout. It is a blend of coffee and milk sugar with a medium body. It reminds me a lot of the Founder's stout line, in profile. Excited to try more Burial when possible.

Bought a four pack of this beer at the brewery in Asheville during the Christmas break.

Poured into a tulip glass. Deep dark brown with a nice brown initial head and good lacing. Very fragrant dark chocolate and dark roast coffee smell that follows to the taste. Some fruit flavors, maybe a bit of banana. Pleasantly sweet, some honey and syrup. Slightly smokey. Will save one can to have for breakfast sometime with h pancakes and good bacon!
