Poured from can to imperial pint

A- pours a clear and deep amber color with some ruby hue, two-finger creamy off-white head retains long after the pour, leaving a nice presentation

S- sweet bready malt with some caramel aromas, herbal & earthy hops with some woodsy notes

T- caramel malty sweetness with a big nutty backbone, bready, herbal and fruity hops on a dry finish

M- medium body with moderate carbonation leads to a creamy mouthfeel and a smooth finish

O- this is so malty that it drinks like an amber ale, rather than an ipa. Still very drinkable though

A: Pours a relatively clear medium copper in color with moderate amounts of active visible carbonation rising from the bottom of the glass rather quickly and a faint amount of amber highlights. The beer has a two finger tall foamy light beige head that slowly reduces to a thick film covering the majority of the surface of the beer with a thick ring at the edges of the glass. Significant amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Moderate to strong aromas of caramel malts with some brown sugar sweetness and moderate aromas of citrus/grapefruit pith + pine hops.

T: Upfront there are moderate to strong flavors of caramel malts with light to moderate amounts of caramel, toffee, and brown sugar sweetness. That is followed by moderate to strong flavors of citrus/grapefruit pith and pine/resin hops which impart a moderate amount of lingering bitterness.

M: Medium bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Light amounts of dryness in the finish.

O: Maybe more of a hoppy amber/red ale than a traditional IPA but this one is pretty good - nice combination of hop flavors that are well balanced by the sweetness of the malts. I would get this one again.

Poured from a can into a shaker pint, the beer is a crystal clear, caramel coloring with a steady flow of carbonation and a fluffy, clingy, tall white head. Aromas of tangy caramel, roast notes, pepper spice, and subtle fruit and hops resin. Flavors are tangy sweet forward, slightly cloying, with a roasted caramel character and subtle bitterness in the backbone. Smooth, midbodied, with a tangy, sweet aftertaste. The finish is smooth and slick, with a subtle dryness. Malty take on the IPA.

12 oz can into a pint glass.

A: Pours a dark copper color. There are two fingers worth of pale yellow-colored head, and its retention is pretty solid. Some sudsy streaks of lacing are left on the glass. A good looking beer.

S: This is worryingly malty. There are nice touches of floral Cascade hops here, but mostly a ton of toffee, caramel, and plastic from crystal malt. And I don't like crystal malt. Smells like a textbook mediocre IPA, unfortunately.

T: Apart from a nice ping of flowery hops to start, the primary flavors are sweet caramel and toffee. A lot of sweet caramel and toffee, actually. It's vaguely tea-like at times, but not particularly refreshing in the least. It tastes like a stale IPA, really, so I can only fault the brewery so much.

M: Not that crisp or dry - ergo the malt tends to linger on the palate pretty firmly. On the other hand, it's light bodied enough where it's not that hard to drink. Maybe its the malt astringency that's giving it okay drinkability. Weakly carbonated for the style. Even though it's WAY too sweet for me, I kind of enjoy its creamy, soft feel.

O: I'll be fair to this one - I have no idea when this was canned, and it kind of tastes like an IPA past its prime. In this current state, it's not very good. I'd really suggest this brewery date their cans in the future; but this deserves a second chance as long as I know I'm getting it fresh. Even still, for this to properly succeed (fresh or not), I'd recommend a bit more late hopping, a bit less crystal malt, or hell, even a combination of the two.
