I wasn't expecting much from this one as the only other Italian beer I've tried is Peroni, and I thought that it was pretty nasty. I was pleasantly suprized however by this light bodied brew.

I had this with a home-made pizza that my girlfriend and I made together in the tiny kitchen of my hole-in-the-wall apartment. I normally wouldn't really be drawn to a beer like this, but I got it in a variety ten pack mixer from World Market and I figured what the hell. Pizza is pseudo-Italian, this beer is authentically Italian. Makes sense.

This one is light on the scent side, and visually unappealing, but pretty tasty nonetheless. There were more malt flavors than I would have expected. It's pretty sweet, clean, carbonated, refreshing, and basic. Goes well with food, but probably too bland to drink just by itself. Has a "transparent" quality that doesn't add or detract from the meal; it's just...there.

Nothing special, but I would have it again if I saw it at an Italian restaurant. Could be quite sessionable, but I would choose a more interesting beer for that purpose. Also a very good beer to share with non-BA's as it is very unintimidating and shares lots of qualities with American macros, but is of a much higher quality.

This review is from memory, circa 2002 in the place of origin. It was a popular local beer in the far NW area of Italy, and I found it very good. Since then it changed ownership; the following (somewhat self-referential) paragraph is pasted off Wikipedia:
<Birra Moretti was an Italian brewing company, founded in Udine in 1859 by Luigi Moretti. In 1996 the company was acquired by Heineken International. The brewing plant in Udine was sold to the newly formed Birra Castello S.p.A.; Moretti is now a brand of Heineken>.
So what you are drinking now is not necessarily the same beer as back then, could be standard Heineken relabeled.
Assuming it stayed the same, it's a good light beer for summer days.

Served in a Gale Sayers shaker pint glass.

A new Italian beer came in, and, don't ya know it, I just had to try it. It pours a clear pale straw topped by a short finger of lightly off-white foam. The nose comprises mild grass, light flowers, and light cornbread. The lack of expected skunk is a pleasant touch. The taste brings in more of the same, the sweetness playing off the grassiness pretty nicely. The body is a hefty light, with a light moderate carbonation and a watery feel. Overall, not a bad Euro lager at all, really; nothing to write home about, but I wouldn't object to being given another.

I really didn't have much hope for this beer - I mean, who woulda thought you would find a decent beer from Italy? But I was wrong, this brew was pretty good.

Out of the bottle the beer pours a beautifully clear, golden color. It shows up with no head whatsoever or even the smallest bits of lacing. This leads to making it difficult to test for smell, but it's there, and what is there is surprising. The smell has a distant sweetness to it that mixed good with the hops. Its mouthfeel was average - nothing really to mention, but the taste was definitely what was surprising. I had to have a second one to convince myself that it was pretty good.

Overall, its an average lager - but on its own it's a relatively good beer.

12 oz bottle poured into pint glass.

A: Poured a clear light golden color with a fingers worth of head that settled to a small ring with little to no lacing to speak of. Pretty standard for a Euro Lager.

S: I'm getting some light malt sweetness with a very light floral hops and a old touch of pizza sauce (Loosing my mind)

T: I'm getting some sweetness right up front then a light hops to finish it out.... Not much inbetween. Also pretty Euro Lager like.

M: Here is where it got fun for me.... It is pretty medium bodied with a creamy and smooth feel. Finish is strangely little dry. Very interesting.

D: A very eady to drink Euro Lager that doesn't feel like a Euro Lager. Would be a prefect match for a nice Supreme Pizza. Worth looking for at your next Italian restaurant.

I found this treasure at the 99¢ Only Store.

Best before 7/2012.

Pours a crystal clear pale yellow with a 1/2 inch foamy bone colored head that settles to an oily film on top of the beer. Thin foamy rings of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of grain and sweet grape juice aromas. Taste is very much the same with a slight hop bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a somewhat flat mouthfeel with only a hint of carbonation. Overall, this is a pretty average beer with nothing too offensive but nothing great at all.

A- Pale golden with a thin white head. Minimal retention and no lacing.
S- The aroma is quite sweet with some slight adjuncty aroma. Otherwise fairly clean.
T- The taste is the same. It has pretty much the same flavor as many euro pale lagers. A bit adjuncty at first, fairly clean in the finish.
M- Very light body. Carbonation is decently smooth at least.
O- It's an ok pale lager, but there's nothing here that excites me too much.

Another one bought at Walmart, Mexico, and one of the few sold not in a six pack.
Pours a golden yellow colour with one finger head, quickly gone.
Aroma is of malts, some grass.
Taste is nothing extraordinary, but honest.
Average thickness on the body and average carbonation.
I hadn't noticed that it was Italian when I got it and I hadn't had my hopes high when I did, but after all it wasn't that bad, just an average Euro Lager.

330ml bottle into a pint glass.

Pours a clear gold with a thin fizzy head that quickly disappears.

Smells of metal and stale cabbage. A tiny bit of bready gran.

Flavor is cooked vegetables and creamed corn. Slightly metallic also. Some faint grassy hops are present but everything fades away to a watery mess rather quickly. Mouthfeel is slick but really watery.

Overall this was a really disappointing beer. Very watery and just tasted stale.

I picked it up at Travis AFB yesterday.

Appearance- gold color, thin head that dissipated to nothing quickly

Smell- grainy malts

Taste- grainy malts, very slight flavor of hops

Mouthfeel- light to medium bodied

Drinkability- I thought it was ok. Not the best or worst. I might drink it again.
