Served in a Gale Sayers shaker pint glass.

A new Italian beer came in, and, don't ya know it, I just had to try it. It pours a clear pale straw topped by a short finger of lightly off-white foam. The nose comprises mild grass, light flowers, and light cornbread. The lack of expected skunk is a pleasant touch. The taste brings in more of the same, the sweetness playing off the grassiness pretty nicely. The body is a hefty light, with a light moderate carbonation and a watery feel. Overall, not a bad Euro lager at all, really; nothing to write home about, but I wouldn't object to being given another.

I really didn't have much hope for this beer - I mean, who woulda thought you would find a decent beer from Italy? But I was wrong, this brew was pretty good.

Out of the bottle the beer pours a beautifully clear, golden color. It shows up with no head whatsoever or even the smallest bits of lacing. This leads to making it difficult to test for smell, but it's there, and what is there is surprising. The smell has a distant sweetness to it that mixed good with the hops. Its mouthfeel was average - nothing really to mention, but the taste was definitely what was surprising. I had to have a second one to convince myself that it was pretty good.

Overall, its an average lager - but on its own it's a relatively good beer.

12 oz bottle poured into pint glass.

A: Poured a clear light golden color with a fingers worth of head that settled to a small ring with little to no lacing to speak of. Pretty standard for a Euro Lager.

S: I'm getting some light malt sweetness with a very light floral hops and a old touch of pizza sauce (Loosing my mind)

T: I'm getting some sweetness right up front then a light hops to finish it out.... Not much inbetween. Also pretty Euro Lager like.

M: Here is where it got fun for me.... It is pretty medium bodied with a creamy and smooth feel. Finish is strangely little dry. Very interesting.

D: A very eady to drink Euro Lager that doesn't feel like a Euro Lager. Would be a prefect match for a nice Supreme Pizza. Worth looking for at your next Italian restaurant.

I found this treasure at the 99¢ Only Store.

Best before 7/2012.

Pours a crystal clear pale yellow with a 1/2 inch foamy bone colored head that settles to an oily film on top of the beer. Thin foamy rings of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of grain and sweet grape juice aromas. Taste is very much the same with a slight hop bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a somewhat flat mouthfeel with only a hint of carbonation. Overall, this is a pretty average beer with nothing too offensive but nothing great at all.

A- Pale golden with a thin white head. Minimal retention and no lacing.
S- The aroma is quite sweet with some slight adjuncty aroma. Otherwise fairly clean.
T- The taste is the same. It has pretty much the same flavor as many euro pale lagers. A bit adjuncty at first, fairly clean in the finish.
M- Very light body. Carbonation is decently smooth at least.
O- It's an ok pale lager, but there's nothing here that excites me too much.

Another one bought at Walmart, Mexico, and one of the few sold not in a six pack.
Pours a golden yellow colour with one finger head, quickly gone.
Aroma is of malts, some grass.
Taste is nothing extraordinary, but honest.
Average thickness on the body and average carbonation.
I hadn't noticed that it was Italian when I got it and I hadn't had my hopes high when I did, but after all it wasn't that bad, just an average Euro Lager.

330ml bottle into a pint glass.

Pours a clear gold with a thin fizzy head that quickly disappears.

Smells of metal and stale cabbage. A tiny bit of bready gran.

Flavor is cooked vegetables and creamed corn. Slightly metallic also. Some faint grassy hops are present but everything fades away to a watery mess rather quickly. Mouthfeel is slick but really watery.

Overall this was a really disappointing beer. Very watery and just tasted stale.

I picked it up at Travis AFB yesterday.

Appearance- gold color, thin head that dissipated to nothing quickly

Smell- grainy malts

Taste- grainy malts, very slight flavor of hops

Mouthfeel- light to medium bodied

Drinkability- I thought it was ok. Not the best or worst. I might drink it again.

Why is it that hotel bars offer not only terrible service but awful beer selection? Since this particular bar was attached to an Italian themed restaurant - well this was the alternative to bud and heinekin. This was a very average euro lager in every capacity. Enough said.

I have a brown bottle here, maybe it will help with the skunkiness. Head is not much to look at, fizzles quickly although the streamers keep up a mild lid for a minute. Golden yellow in color, quite clear. Nothing special.

Aroma is very clean, with malt and some grassy hop. The flavor is actually fairly forward on the hoppy bitter side, relative to the nose as well as the Euro lager competition. No major complaints.

Still very average, nothing special going on, but for a slightly hoppier lager that stays quite clean, it's not a bad choice.

12 oz bottle with a best by date of 11.20.11. Pours a very clear yellow hue with a white head that is a bit more dense than your typical euro lager/adjunct lager.

Nose is grainy and grassy with a honey-like sweetness. Pretty standard fare for the style.

Taste follows suit closely with the most unique part of this beer being the honey-butter sweetness and creamier mouthfeel than most. It has a pretty fresh flavor and is low on the carbonation for a lager. Hops are light, but some faint grassiness is detectable. Meh, another Italian lager...Id probably order this before a Peroni but after a Moretti.

Pale straw colored with a thin filmy head of white bubbles. Untoasted grain, hay and herbal hop notes in the aroma. Mildly sweet and bready with faint earthy hops to balance. Light bodied and effervescent. Meh, another Euro Lager that probably doesn't need to be imported as it tastes about the same as all the others.

Yay! I buy a beer before I check the BA and it has a D+ rating, oh joy I hope everyone else is wrong about this one.

Green glass bottle, hope it isn't skunked.

Gold colored beer with small temporary white colored head.

Smell is not skunked; they should ban green glass for beer. Strong grain scent with a little toast on the grain. Wheat bran and grass with some caramel scent.

Starts out a little sweet and grainy. Tastes like the smell Toasted grain with a little grass and a slight bitter finish. Doesn't taste bad at all it's better than Heineken anyway.

Mouthfeel is good.

Drinkability is much better than I feared. Pretty easy to drink, just make sure you get your beer from a place that knows how to store beer.

1/22 Had at Walter's in Federal Hill.
Served in a pilsner glass

A: This beer pours a highly carbonated, light golden/straw color. One finger of sticky, bright white head. Head retains nicely leaving chunks of wispy lacing.

S: Nose is slightly fruity, with grainy, bready notes.

T: Taste has a mild hop flavoring at the forefront that is quickly dominated by a bready, grainy flavoring. Nothing overly sticks out ..

M: Lighter side of medium body, high carbonation, crisp clean feel.

D: Goes down easily, not filling, not very tasty, mild kick, and ok representation of style. This is a typical Euro lager that really doesn't have anything that stands out.

A - Poured out a clear, straw-yellow color with a small, white, bubbly head. Short lived and left no lace.

S - It smelled mildly of grains, caramel and floral notes.

T - Sweet grain flavor with some caramel taste. Very, very mild spice from the hops.

M - It was fairly crisp but seemed a little watery at times. A light bodied lager.

D - This is was it is. A light Euro Lager with very little flavor.

12oz Bottle

Appearance - The beer pours a clear golden yellow colour with a small fizzy white head. There really isn't much carbonation showing. There is some faint lacing on the sides of the glass and the head stuck around for only a few minutes before it was gone.

Smell - pilsner skunk, breads/grains, a grassiness

Taste & Mouth - The beer actually has a fair amount of carbonation, which is strange considering its appearance. It has the typical euro-beer flavour, slight skunkiness, breads/grains, and a grassiness. The beer finishes with a sweet corn syrup sweetness and slightly bitter hop aftertaste.

Drink - Just another average euro-beer. Not something I'd turn away if offered, but not something I'd seek out again.

Castello has a medium, white head and a clear yellow-straw appearance. Carbonation is moderate. A strong bready smell is the chief aroma (also a skunkiness, which quickly dissipates, thankfully) and the major characteristic of this beer. Taste is likewise very bread oriented with only a kiss of hops. Mouth-feel is light, and Castello finishes refreshing. I really liked this and found it different.

Hmm. A thin, pallid appearance and major skunky odor are immediately apparent with this Italian lager. Not a good place to start. Taste is weak, watery, and, well, bland. There's little to grasp taste-wise. I know there are some good craft brews from Italy, but I've yet to encounter one, unfortunately! Awful stuff here.

Light golden colour, with a reasonably decent head of white foam. Bit filmy after a while, but it does leave some nice lager lacing after a while. Not bad.

Slight bread yeast on the nose, with a bit of dryness, but otherwise, very little at all. Maybe a slightly chemical acidity. That's all. It's weak and unimpressive.

Taste is also very weak, with almost nothing. Slight acidity and prickly carbonation, some bready grain character and a finish of dry acidity, like cheap and nasty champagne.

Very dry, very pale and very, very empty. It's verging very close to being deeply offensive. Worth avoiding.

The color when poured was light yellow with medium amount of white foam and some lace on the side of the glass. The smell of lighty rosted malts, with a hint of spice filled the nose with a pleasant aroma. The taste was a mild roated malts, mild hops and a hint of coriander in the flavor. Not bitter and a very pleasing balance of malts, hops and spices.

A clear straw colored beer, a white rather small head with no lacing.

A bit sweet biscuit aroma, with some lemon nuances and a short bitter-almond presence.

The tast is upfront sweet, white bread, some acidity - lime and rhubarb, a dry bitterness,

Medium high carbonation, a clean feeling, refreshing and finishing a bit dry.

An average euro pale lager, not at all bad on a warm day,

Pours up the usual golden straw colour one would expect with a nice, sudsy, snow white head. For what it is, it doesn't look bad.
Smell is nice in that aside from mild skunk, which wasn't as assertive as I feared, by the way, I actually got a little bit of lemon in this and found it very pleasant.
Taste, too, was quite refreshing, all things considered. Oh sure, it had the typical mild bitterness accompanied by (slight) skunk one would expect with a 'green bottle Euro-import', but compared to other similar beers, I really liked this one.
Mouthfeel is very light (of course) with medium, on the cusp of high carbonation. Very refreshing and a nice alternative to other better known 'green bottle Euro beers'. I rather enjoyed this one, given the style and toward whom this type of beer is marketed. I'll seek it out again as hotter weather approaches.

**Note** My label looks different from the one in the photo. Mine is a blue and white shield on a green field with "Castello" and "Birra Italiano" in a bright red field with two sheaves of wheat at the bottom.

11.2 oz green bottle, best before 08.20.10. 9.99 for a case.

Pours a pale gold with a bright white head that quickly dissipates, an average looking euro pale.

No skunk in the nose despite the green bottle which is nice. It is a fresh bottle. The smell of the beer itself is rather thin though with some light pale malt scent.

The flavor is again malty with only a kiss of hops, it isn't bad for a euro pale, very light but with a hint of caramel and hops.

It is an easy drinker, less offensive than Peroni if you are looking for Italian light lager.
