Pours a nice hazy straw color.

Great banana nose, nice hint of some clove spice.

Taste follows the nose. Big banana ester and slight lemon.

Great mouthfeel. The yeast lends itself well to a slightly thicker body.

Overall a great example of a hefe. (252 characters)

Poured from 12 oz bottle a hazy golden color with highlights of orange. Head is bubbly white but not thick. Smell is orange, banana, wheat, honey, crackers and hints of clove. Taste reveals orange and lemon flavors on the tart with a soft wheat taste on the tongue and a slight sweetness to the beer with further notes of banana and a finish with light clove and pineapple. Refreshing on a hot day as it suggests. Better then average American hefeweizen. (454 characters)

12oz bottle. No code date. Appearance: light golden with only a slight cloudiness. Not much yeast residing in the bottom of the bottle. Aroma: Smells distinctly like a Belgian yeast, not German. Clove dominates, with apple and pear prominent. Banana is there but faint. Taste: Yeast starts to shine on the tongue. Banana and clove dominate, with an abnormally sweet malt and fruity backbone. Almost cloyingly sweet, with citrus/orange coming thru. Mouthfeel: Light to medium body, thin for the style, and lighter carbonation than typical for style. Finish: Really sweet citrusy malt lingers, with no hop character to balance and little carbonic bite. Overall: Far from a great example of the style. Cloyingly sweet, light body and carbonation for the style, and the aroma is much more phenolic than estery. Still a refreshing beer, but could be cleaned up. (856 characters)

Enjoyed this on tap at the brewery. Beautiful hazy yellow color with fluffy thick head. Very nice aroma with banana, some clove, and fruit. Tastes great with good banana, clove, and fruity notes. Nice clean finish. (218 characters)

Orange, wheat, coriander, clove, and a hint of banana form the aroma. There's a touch of cardboard.

Flavor reveals a sour lemon component underlying a wheat backbone. Orange is secondary, along with coriander and clove. A metallic, minerally flavor weaves throughout. The finish is earthy.

That metallic, minerally character and overbearing sour lemon is offputting. (368 characters)

Didn't like the "finish" on the back of my tongue and upper roof of mouth. Almost a burning or burnt coffee sensation. Label too busy and nonsensical. (What's a funky Buddha?) Not a fan of the "throaty" wheat beers. In search of the perfect pilsner with a lager attitude. (277 characters)

Funky Buddha Brewery "Floridian Hefeweizen"
12 oz. brown glass bottle, "BOTTLED ON 06/02/15"
$1.67 @ Trader Joe's #766, Tampa, FL

Appearance: Typical Bavarian hefeweizen... maybe a little on the light side, and with better than average retention and lacing.

Aroma: Wheat, minerals, banana, clove, grass, tart apple, slight earthiness.

Flavor: Tart upfront with fruitiness (apple, perhaps pear and/or berry). Clove/banana and wheat as it crosses the palate. A touch of grassy and leafy hops towards the swallow. Median to moderate bitterness is all that's needed to balance it because of the lower pH. Some hops and a bit of chalky mineral linger in the finish with a swirl of clove.

Mouthfeel: Light and spritzy.

Overall: Refreshingly tart but subtly funky. Perhaps a touch too light in body. Otherwise easy to drink with a nice bit of character, and even somewhat unique. The name does it justice as this would make a great beer in the heat, but not so much so in the cold. (979 characters)

German-style wheat beer is full on flavor yet light on the palate. Authentic hefeweizen yeast creates the compelling aromas of bananas, citrus, and cloves, while the all wheat and malt body perfectly balances it. Perfect for Floridian summers. Love it. (252 characters)

Had on tap at Disney's Epcot Center

L: Pours a clear golden color. White head with minimal lacing.

S: Mild yeasts and grain. Slight citrus and banana.

T/F: Very mild wheat beer. Grains and banana. Semi sweet. No significant hops. Moderate carbonation.

O: The definition of an average wheat beer. Good for a hot day. Not one I'd seek out. (351 characters)

Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a Pilsner glass. No date or code on bottle.
My sweetheart brought 3 bottles home from her recent trip to FL.
A - Dark straw color, slightly hazy. Active carbonation quickly creates a snow white 1/2"
cap that quickly dissipates, no lacing at all.
S - That Hefeweizen yeast sets the tone immediately with banana and clove, then comes the citrus warm fruits apricot, orange and fine honey. There is just enough room for a hint of English cracker in there.
T - No messing around here, wheat strong, banana and tropicals straight from the nose to the palate. The citrus component wraps things up nicely.
M - Surprisingly slick on the palate not in the best way, Carbonation is present but not up the challenge of the grain, yeast combination. Sweet finish lingers for some time and closes out with citrus oil quality.
O - A nice Hefeweizen for sure, this has inspired a few purchases of the German classics for future tasting. The citrus elements are pleasant, I wonder if that slickness is the intent. Overall worth tyring for sure.

Very impressed. Did a taste test and paired it up with HB and TUCHER. Was not expecting it too stand up but it was as authentic of a Hefe-Weizen as you get. 4 finger white head and cloudy yellow appearance. Smell of lime and hard cider. Tastes a little too tangy and sour but very refreshing. Still Taste real good after it warms. Perfect for a Florida summer. Overall it's one of the best US Hefe-Weizen I've tried yet. Only Yuengling is better. 4.50 (456 characters)

An average beer across the board. This is a filtered hefe (at least on draft), I do prefer the unfiltered ones. Another average beer from the Buddha, I had higher expectations. (178 characters)

A: poured from a 12 oz bottle into a pint glass, golden blond with a huge foamy white head that linger leaving some lacing, hazy

S: clove, banana, cardamon, spice, yeast esters

T: taste falls short of smell, grainy, a bit of clove

M: light, carbonation too low

O: passable for the style, color is too orange, could be more flavorful (337 characters)

This Hief is a hit foe me. I've had others and this actually has a better entry taste with a more subtle banana tone and a great clean after taste. Definitely worth trying at least once. I can see myself buying this on a regular bases. (235 characters)

Hazy orange color with a relatively very thin head.
Light aroma of Weizen yeast, orange, banana-bubblegum and cloves.
So far looks and nose were not that inviting.
But its taste improved the experience. Refreshing and balanced flavor with orange citrus notes, honey, bubblegum and cloves, nothing shadowing each other.
Light to medium body with appropriate carbonation of tiny bubbles.
Perfect beer for this suffocating summer day in Florida. Utterly refreshing, not too yeasty, and with a good balance between orange and bubblegum/banana notes.

On draft, pours a cloudy pale orange with a wispy white head.

The nose is heavy banana and fruity; citrus notes and a little hay, straw and wheat. The flavor is more bananas, grains and Belgian yeast and lemon. It has a very bubblegum type finish that lingers in your mouth. It is a bit thin for my liking as I prefer my Hefe's to have a heavier backbone as you are consuming them.

Overall, this is just a standard Hefe that gets lost in the conversation. (460 characters)

Very light orange/yellow color reminds me of a Florida sunset, which seemed appropriate. The head was stiff and thick but airy.

The nose was ripe with bubblegum-like aroma, yeasty esters, dry wheat, pepper corns, cloves and a breadiness.

The flavor replicated the aroma to a tee. The bubblegum is apparent but blends well with the wheat and bread like maltiness. The clove or peppercorn serves up near the finish.

The feel is dry and light and is an easy drinking beer but not overly thin.

Not a big Hefe fan but found this to be closer to a Tripel, and a good one at that. (577 characters)

On tap at Funky Buddha, served in a hefeweizen glass 5/29/2014.

A- Hazy, cloudy orange-amber body, one finger white head with good retention. Some lacing. As expected of a hefeweizen.

S- Typical hefeweizen nose- bubblegum, citrus, grainy pale malt and a distinct wheat scent.

F- Wheat, wheat and bubblegum, a little bit of cloves. Pale malt sweetness. Generally an unobtrusive flavour profile, not particularly intense but makes for pleasant and easy drinking.

M- Thinner body, not quite watery but does feel a bit subdued even as far as carbonation goes. Bubblegum and spices finish things off but doesn't linger.

O- Not terrible, an easy drinker on the outdoor seating area at Funky Buddha on a relatively humid 80 degree night. A good one to have when hanging out with friends and/or family if you live in Southeast Florida, but on beer rating merits, this was nothing particularly special and not anything I'd trade for. (930 characters)

Tap at Proof. Slightly hazy tan-orange with off white head, medium-thick collar. Aroma is really citrusy, I get some plenty of wheat-like grains, and some berry. Light in body, low carbonation. Thin mouthfeel, this beer fades quickly from my palate. Taste is pretty much exactly like the aroma. (294 characters)

On tap in a pint glass.

A- Hazy burnt orange color with a 1f creamy off-white head. Some lacing, bubbly.

S- Wheat, yeast, lemon, spices.

T- Lemony, lots of wheat. Yeast funk. Bubblegum finish.

M-Firm and spritzy, tingly. Long dry finish. The bubblegum flavor lingers.

O- This wasn't bad, it just didn't come together completely for me. (340 characters)

Notes from 7/2012

A somewhat hazy pale yellow pour with a thin cap of white foam. Huge banana aroma with just a bit of lemon. Taste is similar, with a touch of bubblegum thrown in. Definitely light in flavor and body, even for the style, which was intentional from what I understand after talking with the brewers. A slight tartness as well, but pretty refreshing overall. (373 characters)

A - pours an ideal hazy straw yellow with a hint of gold. Small white dense head, ok retention, weakfish lacing.

S - banana and cloves mixed with mildly spiced wheat citrusy lemon/orange.

T - cloves and lemony citrus followed by a wallop of banana and spiced wheat. Orange citrusy flavors at the finish, aftertaste is cloves and citrusy.

M - light bodied well carbonated and really refreshing.

O - really really good, lots of lemon and loads of banana. Definitely a good Florida beer! (488 characters)

First had: on tap at Funky Buddha, Boca Raton, FL

I really have to be in the mood for a straight-up hefeweizen, and my rating might reflect that, but this was a good example of the style overall. Cloudy, pale, bronzed yellow pour, with a small foamy white head; moderate retention and lacing. Aroma typical of the style: wheat, banana esters, clove. Big taste of banana, bready malts and yeast, spicy clove, hints of citrus zest, honey and herbal hops. Medium body, soft carbonation, basic, very good for the style. (516 characters)
