On tap at the brewery. Served into a snifter.

Appearance - Deep hazy copper. Nice white head. Chunky collar and wispy surface.

Smell - Lots of pineapple. Pine hop. Resiny. And diacetyl. Butterscotchy.

Taste - Less pineapple, but still present. Really piney and grassy. Diacetyl is less prevalent, but comes out in the back end. Bitter finish.

Mouthfeel - Bitter, medium carbonation. Butterscotchy. It's not terrible.

Overall - The smell is worse than anything. Diacetyl doesn't quite ruin it completey, because the pineapple mutes it.

amber pour, lots of highlights of yellow and bright orange hints throughout. A light cloudiness lays in it as a three finger head of white comes up and over the top of the glass. Rich lacing down the sides yields a wonderfully complete look that is simply stunning. Aroma is huge, rich citrus notes that are dominated by a stunningly fresh fruit juice aroma. Rich pineapple, , ripe grapefruit and a wonderful fresh, hop aroma. So rich and fresh, I could have drank this for breakfast everyday and been happy. Each sip brought even more complex and stunningly wonderful flavors. Rich mango, orange, grapefruit, no hint of any malt balance here, just straight up hop juice mixed with tropical fruit that is balanced perfectly.

Had as 16oz draft at Lokal Burger in Coconut Grove.

Pour: Straw - yellow; clear; small but firm head that dissipates rather slowly

Nose: Fresh clean malt; Resiny hops; Pineapple smell that hits you at the same time as the hops, intermingles with the resiny hops

Taste: Excellent; clean fresh malty - biscuity backbone with perfectly balanced, juicy hops and pineapple; I usually hate fruit beers but this beer truly pairs the hops malt and juice flavors perfectly. The pineapple flavor lingers along with the hops and the final product is the definition of "lip smacking". Want more.

Poured on tap to a 12oz snifter at the Funky Buddha brewery in Oakland Park, FL. Written from notes taken a few weeks ago while on a trip to FL for an interview. (Not that that matters.)

Appearance (4.25): Half a finger of tight foam, showing good retentionas it dies slowly and leaves a solid sheet of lace on the far side of the glass, and heavy webs of lace on the near side. The body is a deep copper-amber, clear but for a slight chill haze.

Smell (3.75): Pineapple (DUH), with sweet grapefruit underneath, toasted country bread and a little nutty character which offers a bit more dynamic malt body. There’s some grassiness underneath, as well. Surprisingly, not as bombastic or different from a standard, well-hopped, West Coast-style IPA. But, y’know. Still pretty yummy.

Taste (4.25): LOTS of juicy citrus, but none of the weird dankness you get with some citrusy hop varieties. The bitterness falls on the side of grapefruit pith, solidly bitter and lingering very nicely. The malt follows that of the nose, with the toasted rustic bread tones and a mild nuttiness, but showing a richer, slightly tangy toffee tone. Very nice. It has a grassy finish that melds with the nuttiness and slightly tangy toffee note well. Very well done.

Mouthfeel (4.25): Very good mouthfeel, with a moderately lush and active carbonation that tingles pleasantly to leave a dry body marked by oily hop character. Very dry, and on the light side of medium-weight.

Overall (4.25): This is a very good IPA, with muh better than average citrus and an exceedingly dry feel and hefty bitterness—the way an IPA should be, amirite? And bonus points for melding the respective characters of the hops and malt and profiles.
