Draft at The Blue Dog in Lansdale, PA.
Pitch black and nearly opaque with dark plum edges and a pinkish off-white head that slowly settles into a thick, lasting ring. Streaks of soapy lace left behind.
The aroma of this beer is really interesting but smells more like a candy/dessert than a sour beer. Not much must or funk, but smells just like a dark chooclate covered raspberry jelly candy. Dark cocoa powder and jammy/seedy raspberry sweetness dominate. As it warms up, there is a subtle bug/funk presence but the chocolate powder and sweet raspberries overpower most of the other notes. Still smells pretty good though.
Medium bodied with a stronger sour funk presence than the nose hinted at. Tart and puckering with lots of musty funk, dry Brett and vinegary acetic acid. Not harsh acetone or solvent-like though. Sweet raspberry presence is really strong with lots of jam, raspberry, currant, blackberry and other dark fruit. Tastes like a dark wild ale with raspberry jelly. The chocolate notes take a back seat but are definitely lingering in the back end. Again, it remeings me of dark chocolate covered jelly rings wih some oak and acetic funk. Really refreshing but the chooclate could be stronger for my preference. Otherwise, it's decently tart, well balanced and easy to drink. Another nice experimental beer from Funky Buddha.

On tap at the brewery. Served in a wine glass.
Appearance - Arrives with a sizable mocha head atop a very deep brown body. Nearly black. The head is fleeting and just a collar of foam is left.
Smell - Raspberry aroma. Dark chocolate. Not much acidity in the nose. Some meatiness to it.
Taste - Roastier here. Rapsberry moves to the back end. Deep chocolate flavor throughout. That meatiness s intensified here. Moderate sourness and raspberry linger in the finish.
Mouthfeel - Medium bodied. Low acidity. Medium carbonation.
Overall - Some odd meaty flavors going on. Reminds me of the Truffle Sour they did. Might be the same base. Decent raspberry and chocolate flavor though.

First had: on tap at Funky Buddha, Boca Raton, FL
I had the privilege of trying this a few days before it was released to the general public. I'm guessing the base beer for this was either a porter or just a dark strong ale, but regardless, it really morphed into something amazing.
Murky dark brown pour, topped with foamy bubbles that soon dissipated completely, some floaties in suspension. In the nose, berry tartness, bakers' chocolate and a bit of dark malt roast. The taste was genuinely amazing. Up front, a rich sensation like biting into a bar of dark chocolate, semi-sweet with a touch of cocoa bitterness. Mid-palate brought in a distinctive raspberry tartness, slight cheek-biting pucker, mellowing out to a more candy-like sweetness. Just when I thought the sour quality had erased all chocolate flavor, a second wave of dark chocolate goodness came in end-palate, balancing out the tartness from the raspberry, and providing a chewy yet smooth finish. This beer send my taste buds on an adventure. Body was medium, carbonation was moderate to low. Unique. Complex. Tremendously well-crafted. Send me more, please.
