BEER INFO

Brewed by:
Funky Buddha Brewery
Florida, United States | website

Style: American Brown Ale

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 8.40%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
The big sister to our Bonita Applebum Apple Pie Brown, Muy Bonita is a bigger, badder ‘bum. This double brown ale flaunts a bodacious body and a stunning combination of real cinnamon, vanilla, and apples. So thick, she’s like a hip hop song.

Large shared bottle in Atlanta.
Deep, clear, red brown body with a very good tan head.
Very appealing aroma smells like the item at a bakery I'd want.
The flavor is too sweet to drink, say, a whole pint of this but it is quite appealing in small quantities. Fine choice for a shared dessert beer.

Funky Buddha Brewery - Muy Bonita. 8.8% ABV. 12oz snifter ordered at the brewery.

Look: Same as the base Doc Brown Ale. Deep amber/maroon colored body, arriving with a thin off white ring of lacing.

Smell: Just as described on the menu. Sweet apples, cinnamon, vanilla, and caramel.

Feel: Full bodied, very smooth with a little carbonation.

Taste: Just like the smell. Sweet green apple, cinnamon, loads of vanilla, and caramel.

Overall: This is a step up from their regular Doc Brown Ale, brewed with apples, cinnamon, and vanilla, which becomes apparent when you smell it. This was so good, me and my brother left with 4 bottles to bring back home.

On tap at the Brewery. Served in a snifter.

Appearance - Deep murky brown with a nice white head. Thick collar. Kinda pond watery.

Smell - Lots of cinnamon and spices. Some apple and caramel.

Taste - Lots of caramel. Like a caramel candy apple. Cinnamon spice kicks up in the back with a spike a booze.

Mouthfeel - Thick and kinda heavy. Sluggish to drink.

Overall - Pretty accurate treatment, but very sweet.

When BA had individual scores for look, scent, taste, etc, this would have gotten a 1 on scent because it is truly offensive. Immediately poured it smells of feces.....shit, quite frankly. After about 5 minutes it tapers off to cinnamon, ginger snap cookies, sugar and Apple's.

The solution is the flavor is simply fantastic and the new scoring helps. I taste cinnamon, Apple brandy, ginger spice, ginger bread, sweet caramel, nutmeg and a finish of pumpkin. This is very very good and worth seeking out, just wait to smell it for a few minutes.

An imperial version of their Bonita Applebum. Not sure if it's barrel aged, but it's delicious regardless.
Hailed by our table last night as "A little slice of Americana", it indeed tastes like a glass of apple pie. Jason Biggs would have conflicting emotions if he got a chance to taste this lovely celebration of America's experimental brewing.
It's rich and creamy, and the aroma is heavenly. Amazing, the beer is well balanced, not too sweet, just the right amount of spice, and I've never tasted anything close to this in my life (aside from the non-imperial version)
Truly, this beer is one of the great accomplishments of The Funky Buddha, and it's ability to craft beers with astoundingly accurate flavors, while remaining balanced.
No Crust comes to mind in comparison.
You really have to taste this beer to do it justice, words cannot express the feeling one gets when tasting this beer. Apple pie in a glass.

Consumed 4/30/16

Cheers to Goblinmunkey7 for sharing this

A: Dark brown, with some burnt caramel around the edges - some clarity - pours with a medium sized, off-white head, fades to a wispy cap, leaves some nice spots of lacing

S: Doesn't exactly smell like apple pie, but it's reminiscent and definitely interesting - rich brown ale malts, with some cooked malts, caramel, molasses, toffee, and bread crust - cinnamon - some apple aroma - light vanilla - some light sweetness

T: Nicely malty, but not particularly rich as the aroma suggests - some brown ale malts, caramel, caramelized malts, molasses, and toffee - bready with some bread crust - cinnamon and vanilla - fleshy apple - some light sweetness, touch of alcohol

M: Medium body, mostly smooth, a touch oily, some lingering spice and sweetness

O: More crusts

I suppose this is reminiscent of apple pie. The only thing it's lacking is the pie crust. It's good, but it's not something I would drink all the time.
