Pours a mostly cloudy yellowy straw color with a light orange hue through out. A soft head with limited retention and lacing.

The nose is soft with some underlining malt and wheat notes. Noticeable hefe notes with a light banana and soft clove. Some minor almost peppery notes with a light vanilla and hint of orange to back it up.

The flavor is on par with the nose but a bit more expressive. The spiciness comes out as well as more of a clove and peppery note come out. This is backed more towards the end of the flavor with a banana and light orangey finish. Some minor bubblegum and a touch of sulfur. Light though.

The body is moderate to light. Would like a bit more complexity but overall a pretty good hefe.

One of many cans I received in a big box-o-beer from woodychandler. Poured from a 12 oz. can. Has a cloudy dark golden color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is dominated by banana and fairly strong. Taste is lots if banana, some wheat, very lightly spiced, super refreshing and the glass is going down quick. Feels full bodied in the mouth and overall this is a beer worth checking out.

Bought from Colorado Liquor Mart in Denver, CO

A&S: Very lively translucent darker orange colored beer. Pours about a fingers worth of fizzy white head and retains in a thin layer. The aroma is very powerful especially for a hefe: tons of bananas complemented by spices, slight orange peel aroma.

T&M: The taste is very similar to the aroma. Very yeasty upfront, mid-way is mostly bananas, and it finishes semi-clean with a bit of bitterness. Probably one of not the best mouthfeels I have ever experienced in a hefe. Very smooth and the carbonation is there but not too overwhelming.

Overall: Very well put-together hefe. Looking forward to having more stuff from this brewery.

Heliocentric – Heffeweizen (4.7%) - Odyssey Beerwerks (Colorado)
☆☆☆

App: Cloudy gold/white pour with a minimal head that falls quickly and leaves no lacing behind. Steady but minimal carbonation rising from bottom of glass feeds film like bubbles on the top.

Smell: Yeast phenols and bready malts dominate this beers aroma. Freshly risen bread dough with a slight lemony wheat zest. No hints of banana or clove in the aroma. Slightly floral, like wilting iris.

Taste: Slight sweetness high in the palate, with a nice sort of orange scone aftertaste. Very wheaty, more grain flavors than anything else. Seems sort of stuck in the middle between an American style wheat beer and a true-to-style German Heffe. Hops is almost absent, with only some slight bitterness coming through. Overall, well balanced and drinkable, if a little underwhelming. More punch than say Sunshine, but not as a german as it could be.

Mouth: Carbonation is medium with a decent body and a slight dryness that compliments the initial sweetness.

Home tasting, 12oz can into Snifter. 1/28/14.

The Old Lady was like a modern Siren, enticing me to come out and visit her in what I now refer to as CANorado. I made the long journey westward, only to find that my amorous feelings for her were MUCH stronger than her reciprocal feelings for me. Ah, ma coeur! In the meantime, she was a most gracious hostess and a like mind, which made it all the more painful. Towards the end of my visit, I formulated my shopping list and went all over town, gathering and buying CANs like it was my first time. The look on the babe's face when she came down from her place of work to help me stow all of my CAN booty in her vehicle was priceless. She could not believe that I had hauled so much around on public trans by myself nor that my (relatively) small frame could carry it, period. I am like an insect, capable of lifting 1000x my body weight, but I was pretty sore for a few days afterward. This will be my fourth in the wondrous event known as New Beer Sunday (week 445 - Labor Day weekend version).

From the CAN: "German Style Wheat Beer"; "Drink the hefe. Find within this well-carbonated beer hints of cloveand a light banana flavor that is always present. Flowery German hops linger in the background. The result is a great beer on a sunny day."

I did a gentle agitation of the CAN and its CANtents prior to the Crack and I CAN report no discernible negative effects. An inverted Glug, to ensure that the yeast was in suspension, and I had two foamy, fingers of French Vanilla-colored head with good retention. The room smelled like it was feeding time in the monkey cage - bananas everywhere! I was going bananas and this, I didn't need. Color was a murky orangish-yellow (SRM = ~ 9). Nose was prevalently bananas, but I also got a whiff of cloves, which was promising as I like clove cigarettes and clove Life Savers, but bananas, not as much. Mouthfeel was soft and silky, to the point that it felt like a gentle caress of my tongue. It was like having come home from a bar fight with hops and having The Old Lady kiss where it hurts. What have I been doing to myself all day? Gad, but this was such a relief! They managed to strike a pretty solid balance between banana and clove on this one, which was good, but it could have been better. How? Ferment it under lager conditions and allow it to be clove-forward. Finish was spicy and cool with the clove esters really getting a chance to shine. Not the best Hefeweizen that I have ever had as that honor belongs to Hinterland in Green Bay, but easily the best from a CAN.

P. S. I have some for trade.

On tap on Colorado +
This is my first Odyssey beer, the others were a bit higher in abv, so I went with this, which was around 4.6

Glowing golden pour, hazy, seems thick..or not really light. Large white head, semi rocky. Settle to a thin collar.

To note, I'm sensitive to corn aromas and flavors, and this one had both in larger than usual quantities. Banana and clove were present in the aroma, but green corn husks reminded me of hot, humid days in Kansas.

Flavor has that corn, too. It overpowers the clove, banana and wheat spices. Again, maybe I'm just too sensitive, but it was too much. It left a grainy feel. Nice carbonation. Feels a bit heavy.

quite a solid hefe really, the banana is there for sure, creamy and prominent, cool yeast here, whatever they used. it pours awfully clear though for the style, lacking any bronze notes at all, and being almost perfectly see through, where is my yeast density? nice inch of slowly fading white head on top. nose of heavy banana, without the clove that usually accompanies it, and a dose of light wheat malt and some residual sugars. instantly summery in vibe, although i can see this working in three seasons. lots of utility in that regard. banana yeast is the most pronounced flavor, and its all the way through the taste, beginning to end. id like a little more sturdy wheat to back this all up and make it mellow, but it is thin in this form. carbonation is great though, a hefe with some oomph, much appreciated. odyssey has a simple packaging presentation, and can be easy to overlook, but after enjoying several of their beers this week, and seeing some subtle uniqueness to each, i implore you to not skip them on the shelf. the beers are fresh and tasteful, not groundbreaking but solid.
