500 mL can picked up at TBS; best before March 2015. Served well-chilled.

Pours a clear straw-yellow colour, with two fingers of billowing, sparkling white head seated atop. It leaves a series of successive lace rings around the perimeter of the glass as it slowly recedes into a lumpy cap and collar. The aroma consists of bready, crackery pilsner malt and some grassy, somewhat spicy noble hops. It's a nice, clean bouquet.

This is a fairly straightforward pils that I have no strong feelings toward, in either direction. Pale grainy malts and some cracker/biscuity sweetness dominate at first, with a tamed hoppy finish that is mostly grassy with a touch of spice. Dry finish, with a touch of noble hop bitterness that doesn't remain on the palate for long. Light-bodied, with fairly assertive carbonation that provides an appropriate bite for this type of lager. Very sessionable; I have no serious complaints about this one.

Final Grade: 3.4, a passable B-. Fürstenberg Premium Pilsener is a fairly good pale lager, but compared to some of its more accessible imported competitors, it falls a little flat. I'd probably buy this again, but it's not available locally so I can't see it happening any time soon. A middle-of-the-road German lager that I can enjoy, and worth a try if you're an enthusiast, but you wouldn't be missing out on much by skipping it, either.
