One of our original brews at the brewery. India Pale Ale is brewed with Best Pale and Wheat malt with a blend of Columbus, Perle and Cascade hops to give a Juicy citrus and bready malt aroma, bittersweet citrus and malt flavour and long, clean bittersweet finish.

Bright golden hue, with a beautiful white foam.
Quite malty smell, tea notes, orange marmelade, light resinous.
Malty taste, good structure, more intense resinous notes. Citrus fruit.
Average body, in the aftertaste a good amount of resinous bitterness.
Good balance. English with an american accent.

Clear honey colour, with very light and sweet aromas of pale malts and earthy hops. Light and smooth, sweet pale malt body throughout, enough earthy hops to keep it balanced and add a bit of bitterness at the end.

500ml bottle poured into a pint glass
Look: Deep, dark golden yellow with a small amount of haziness. Big, bubbly and fluffy off-white head which sticks around for a while and leaves behind a lot of lacing on the glass.
Smell: Plenty of hops on the nose with some citrus bubbling underneath - the usual suspects, notable grapefruit and orange with maybe a hint of mango sweetness. No malts in evidence - the resinous, floral hops are well to the fore here.
Taste: At first blush it tastes like your typical IPA, whatever one of those might be - there's plenty of hop action, as you'd expect, but the fruit flavours really start to come through shortly afterwards with a faint hint of malt kicking in at the finish. Quite a sweet aftertaste, with lingering tastes of citrus and malt.
Feel: Quite lively in the glass, the carbonation helps to accentuate the hop character - finish is long, dry and fruity.
Overall: I approached this with some skepticism as I was singularly underwhelmed with Harbour's pale ale. This didn't disappoint though and gave me the hop 'fix' I was looking for in the absence of any transatlantic brews. As US-inspired IPAs go, this is definitely a good one and well worth hunting out - it's relatively easy to get hold of in UK supermarkets, which is a bonus. Recommended.

A: Clear coppery gold with a chunky white head.
S: Loads of American hops. Mango.
T: Dry. Loads of rindy orange and grapefruit. Plenty bitter. As it warms a very perfumy floral orange flavour dominates the finish.
M: Creamy but fizzy.
O: Wow, one of those hop-forward AIPAs that carry themselves without a malt character. Very nice.

500ml Bottle: BBD 1st May 2014. Poured into a UK pint sleeve at home on 10th Jan 2014. This is the first beer of a 'random beer tasting evening' I'm having with myself while the wife is dining with a bunch of other ladies elsewhere.
Exceedingly lively, only got about a third of the bottle into the glass on the first pour because the head it produced just kept growing and growing. Below it was a misty, deep old gold coloured body. The huge head left some heavy lacing too.
Spicy hop nose with citrus undertones.
The beer was refreshing and tasty: bitter and almost sharp on the tongue, the hops ruling the malt contents completely.
I'm not fan of golden brews that have a citrus front usually: however this has enough character and depth of spiciness to equal those lemon/lime type flavours and aromas. I thought a peppery taste arrived as it warmed a little too.
Most enjoyable.

A 500ml bottle with a BB of May 2014. Acquired recently from Sainsbury as part of their 2013 Beer Hunt. The label mentions that this is brewed using American hop varieties and also features a tale about a giant octopus....
Poured into a tulip pint glass. Bottle conditioned. A hazy sunset-amber with visible sediment and good carbonation. Produces a huge head of creamy white foam that lasts for a few minutes before subsiding to a patchy surface layer. Some lacing. Aroma of juicy hops with notes of grapefruit, citrus, white grape, melon, grass/hay, mild spiciness, subtle caramel malt and earthy yeast. Exceptionally hoppy - delicious.
Tastes of intensely fruity hops with a dry, bitter finish. Notes of grapefruit, orange peel, citrus, white grape, melon, grass/hay, faint tropical fruit, light caramel, earthy yeast and stewed hops. Well-attenuated, followed by a strident, spicy bitterness upon swallowing. Mouthfeel is smooth, tingly and dry, with pleasant carbonation and good body. Somewhat astringent, accompanied by an aftertaste of fruity aromatic hops, bitterness and earthy yeast.
Very tasty - tons of character yet nicely balanced. Looks decent, with an aroma and flavour of hoppy citrus and delicate malt. Good body. Superbly drinkable; I regret only grabbing the one bottle before it disappeared from the shelves. A lovely IPA. Well worth sampling if you come across it.
