Had on tap, at the Tap. Served in a goblet, this was pretty opaque, but since I am an intrepid BA, I was able to spot the dark red ruby glow on the bottom of the glass. It came with a 1/2 inch thick tan head, which left rings and sheet lacing in the glass. Aroma has a faint musty character. Tastewise, I am picking up some fruit like notes ala raisins, and also some sour notes which come off as kriek like to me. I apologize, I am not familiar with this style, but the brew itself seems very complex.

From notes: Tap @ The Tap! Dark ruddy muddy brown with red highlights. Aromas are all funky brett notes and juicy dark fruits, with some nutty funk coming into play as well. Taste is sour and tart with some lactic and vinegar notes, and the same dark fruits as well. Quite acrid and chalky at times but quite nice as well. Mouthfeel is medium bodied and not too over the top which keeps the drinkability in check. Truly funky with the classic oud bruin notes that. Classy and a superb rendition for a US brewpub to pull off. super nice, but not quite Goudenbond. Still killer as it it.

One of only a very few beers sampled at the ABF that I took time out to review. Went back a couple times to ensure an adequate sampling was taken. Was served at the VIP session.
Scheherezade (don't say it while drunk, you'll sprain your tongue) had a murky reddish-brown color and a thin white head. The nose had a nice fruitiness with cherries red plum notes, some mild sourness and the light funk of Brett. Slight hints of alcohol wafted from the glass, too.
The taste had an immediate sweet/tart bite. The cherry flavor carried over from the nose with the addition of tart mulberry notes. Has some candy sugars and was slightly astringent. Wild yeasts add a sourness and lightly funky tone which was quite enjoyable. Feel was light, crisply acidic, and very refreshing.
This was definitely worth the wait as I hovered around the Tap's booth waiitng for them to set up. One of my favorite beers of the VIP session, probably the whole fest. A delicious beer; I'd love to find it out here. Worth seeking out for you lucky souls in Boston.

This beer came off the tap a deep amber color with just a little white head. The head receded quickly, and left very little lace on the glass. The nose is a mixture of cranberry and light orange citrus. The finish has bit of fig. Taste has a nice sour cranberry up front followed by dig sweetness. A bit of orange citrus bitterness. Slick mouth feel good drinakbility.

Pours an opaquely cloudy, dark reddened brown, topped with a one finger tan head.
Sweet, but sour, old malt, ketchup, cinammon and apple aroma.
Sweet and sour taste, apple, malty, raisin, and plum. Tart sour lemon juice in the center of it all.
Medium bodied, good drinkability. In some ways it reminds me of unfiltered apple cider.

Served in a 12 ounce goblet and enjoyed in the company of fellow Brew Free or Die members at the Febrewary meeting.

Muddy red color. A bit sweet in the finish - under-attenuated. Lactic sour bite lingers from first sip to the last dregs in the glass. Some dried fruit and metallic notes. It's been a long time since I had Rodenbach, but this shares the same distinct Belgian yeast flavor. A different beer from a brewer who likes to push the envelope.

Dreamed fitfully for a thousand and one nights with this one on 9/19/2004. 16-oz. pour in a shaker glass at AC on 9/19/2004.

Fluffy, down 1/4 inch head to start, later lacing throughout. Deep raspberry to light plum in hue, with darkening core. Strawberry, cherry, floral sumptuous to nose with just a hint of bitterness, and a tickling pantomime of anis. Aforementioned fruits froggle about at the start followed by the cloying wheat wash that clings to every surface. Drinking this is akin to eating an apple from the core outwards; strong center followed by fleshy meatiness as you go further outwards.

Deep brownish red with some blackness to it. Aroma is medium sweet and tart strawberries with a slight metallic note and light caramel. Very enticing. Flavor is very nice - the perfect balance of sour tartness and woody maple apple strawberry. Finishes blandly. Starts very very creamy but turns more slick half-way into the sip.

Althought the finish sucks much of the complexity out, I really enjoy the flavors. None of them are too bright or protrude much, but there is a lot there and it works very well together. Not unlike a tart mixed-fruit cider. Great.

Sampled on tap at The Tap.

This beer poured a very cloudy, almost opaque brown color with tan foam that settled but clung to the inside of the glass a bit. The smell was mildly sour but also mildy sweet at the same time, with some malt and dried fruit aromas. The taste was mildly tart/sour with a touch of sweetness. It was malty with flavors of dried fruit (raisins and figs) and mild hops. The mouthfeel was sharp and slightly sweet and sour with medium body and strong carbonation feel. This was a very nice Flanders, and was very drinkable.
