Deep beautiful Copper..Cherry wood color.

There was a nice hop aroma that I noticed was not as strong as the Leatherlips IPA style.

I really enjoyed the deep balanced flavor with a nice hop finish. But NOT the hop wallop of Leatherlips or some other Imperial IPA's

Big sticky mouth feel that I enjoyed. This is a sipping beer and not for any extended session.

There is a slight alcohol taste towards the end. This could be helped by kicking up the hops just a tad.

very nice beer.

had this at the Publick House, Brookline

I've heard good things about The Tap's Leatherlips, so I figured this would be a good shot. It was a sleek and slippery deep amber color with little head. The aroma was pure hops: cascade and centennial pehaps. Taste followed suit. Bombardment of hops without the great balance of malt character I was hoping for. The 8% ABV was quite apparent. It got better as I drank (and as it warmed, slightly) and it almost seemed to balance better too. Not a bad beer.

Had on tap while in Boston. Poured a dark reddish color, smallish head, but good lacing down the glass.
Smell was slightly sweet with a good hoppy floral scent, good bit of alcohol scent in there as well.
Pretty well balanced. Nice and malty up front with a good citrusy hop flavor and a bitter aftertaste.
I felt this beer was somewhat chewy and thick, much like a stout.
Good beer, I liked it a lot, would be good on cask I bet.

Blubbered about like a madman with this one on 6/19/2006. 16-oz. cask pour at Redbones.

Kind of a slow, poky covering with some larger spaces opening up in short notice. Hue is deep orange/light ochre with medium clarity and a nice bit of action going on. Almost a soapy pine presence on the nose followed by sunflower seed saltiness (weird) and some dandelion. On the mouth, fairly stripping, not unlike the Leatherlips, but unlike its progenitor, it almost seems more tame on the tongue, perhaps due to the cask? The back end carries more with an oily, almost astringent hop bitterness, along with a bit of fresh-squeezed orange juice and a touch of lemongrass.

Good stuff, though I’d like to try it on draught rather than cask to note the differences.

On cask at Redbones in a regular pint glass. I've been waiting for this guy.

A: Poured a slightly hazy dark amber/ruby color with a nice frothy off white head. Not much retention or lace but non expected via cask.
S: Slight aromas of fresh hops hit the nostrils first. Not a huge smelling dipa, but nevertheless, a good smelling one.
T & M: Flat out--Great tasting! Good citrus hop profile with a nice maltyness to back it up--they dance well together. At first, the beer is slick through the mouth with a huge bitter aftertaste that grabs the tongue and holds on for a long time. It's as if you want to scratch your tongue, because the bitter hops are stuck on the tastebuds. It's as bitter as the crazy cat lady next door or your most negative friend on their worst day! As you get closer to the bottom, the hop profile becomes more apparent unleashing bigger citrus and floral notes with a resiny and oily mouthfeel. There is also a sweetness that kicks in. *Caution*--Must like hops!
D: Very drinkable, but beware of that abv because it's not noticeable--masked by the bitterness. Very glad I made it to Redbones for this cask as I was not dissapointed.

Quaffed last eve at The Tap.... Though this is called Doublelips, I found very little resemblance to the original Leatherlips IPA. It was served in a 12oz glass and came out an opaque, russet-brown color. Head was tan and thin, scattered and vagrant, yet left decent lacing in the glass. Nose was light, with some caramel and floral hopping. Aroma was more subdued than Leatherlips, though it notes it has twice the hops. 2xLips was nicely bodied, medium-plus, and passed very smoothly over the palate.

Flavor had much more malt and less bitterness than the regular Lips. Had a caramel/toffee lean to it, with just the right amount of sweetness. Hops were somewhat floral along with the requisite citrus action, though the malt seemed to lend more of a presence than the high hopping level. It had one taste component, imo, which reminded me somewhat of Triticus, and that was a combo of chocolate notes and a hint of grapiness. Could just be me.... And the 8.0% abv seemed quite well hidden. Anyhow, it was quite tasty on its own merits. Glad to have shared a few glasses over some bier talk and BSing with Goz and Woodychandler.

(Edit - had some of this at the start of ABF on 17JUN, without having had any hoppy biers prior. It really showed a lot more hoppiness when not quaffed immediately after another IPA, like Leatherlips, as I had on my Tap visit.... quite tasty.... quite!!)

Zum Wohl!!
