Poured from a 500ml can into a pils glass. Can had an expiration date of 07/2008 on the bottom. Brew had a clear golden yellow color topped with a fluffy snow white head that fizzled down to nothing and left zero lace. Sparse carbonation lazily floated to the surface.
Nose was all-malt; slightly bready and with a smidge of cut hay. Very low hops profile in the aroma.
Ditto the balance in the taste. Rather dusty malt bill with a corresponding sweet yeastiness. Hops were a vague afterthought at the back of the tongue and only became noticeable after I was nearly halfway through the glass. Feel was a tad thin with a hint of graininess or grit.
Considering the style, I'd say Kaiser Bier is pretty much on the mark. That said, this isn't a style I'm overly impressed with. Not a beer I'd go out of my way to seek out.

As I was loading this one into the fridge, it caught a sharp edge and the can started to leak - guess I'll drink this one now!

Pours a medium golden, about an inch of fluffy head. A few flecks of lacing, the head only survives as a thin ring. Not bad.

Typical Euro smell - light hops, flowers, honey, slight tinniness.

The taste isn't that bad, it's just not very exciting. A bit on the sweeter side, get a touch of hops near the finish and that floral/honey combination, but very little else.

Fizzy and thin, nothing to complain about for the style.

I don't find this brew as bad as some of the other BA's, but it certainly is your standard Euro lager fare. Not much going on here, but I found it surprisingly drinkable. Won't be my summer stand-to, but the price was certainly reasonable and under $2 a can.

Poured a two finger fluffy white head that quickly dissipated to a thin collar over a pale yellow body. Little lacing and very clear.

Smell is barley malt, lemon and some euro hops.

Taste is barley with some tart lemon and some grassy hops. Not offensive but nothing special.
Some biscuit and a little sweet.

Mouth is light to medium body with plenty of carbonation. Little bitterness

Run of the mill euro lager that is drinkable but not worth seeking out, too bad this stuff dominates the cold fridge at the LCBO. At least it is cheap.

5.00% abv, 500mL. Poured into a Stella Artois gold-rimmed glass.

Straw body, big white head that goes to just a cloud. Syrupy looking.. bleh

Aromas of banana, bready malt, lightly hopped. Booze. Cookie dough. Metal, soap. Cooked vegetable, grain husk.

Low-medium carbonation. Light malt, soap on the palate. A little spice. Loads of residual sugar and some pungent maltiness. Finish is a little odd tasting, too grainy and one dimensional, medium length finish. Now I know what it is. Popcorn and butter.

I wouldn't reach for another if someone paid me.

To the LCBO - WHY? There is a whole world of fantastic beer and all we have is yet another poor-mediocre EPL on the shelf.

Still more of the same. Another Pale Euro Lager, another 500ml can, another LCBO mix-and-match 8-pack. Here we go:

Pours a cloudy straw yellow (chill-haze), with slightly visible effervescence. Capped by two fingers of energetic head, which recedes to about a half a finger, and then a quarter, and then a few rings. Substantial lacing, however.

Smell is unusual, and not so hot. Pretty neutral, with maybe hints of grain (horse feed?), and some grassy/floral hops. Faintly bready malt. Almost a fuesal alcohol note in the background. Weak and bland.

Taste is more of the same. Bland, not not American macro bland, because there's at least some hop flavour. Grassy/floral, but almost in a skunked way. Weak malt. Acidic, very faint malt. Dry and bitter. Astringent. I haven't had many Austrian brews, but this disappointing flavour seems to be a trend.

Mouthfeel is astringent, and it's slightly overcarbonated. Body, however, isn't so bad. Drinkability is low--between the astringency, the bitterness, and the notes of fuesal alcohol, there's very little that I'd like less.

500ml Can

Appearance - Clear gold/yellow colour with a large size fizzy white coloured head. There is an average amount of carbonation showing and there is a fair amount of lacing. The head lasted for around 5 minutes before it was gone.

Smell - Grains, malts, skunk, corn, dough

Taste & Mouth - The beer has an above average amount of carbonation. I can taste grains mixed with malts and some cooked corn. There are also some very light hops and a bit of a honey or corn syrup like sweetness. It finishes with a grainy yet slightly sweet aftertaste.

Overall – Lots of Adjunct qualities in this beer. You could drink far worse for sure but this still stands out as a unremarkable beer. I wouldn’t buy this beer again.

Pours a pale golden colour with a nice two finger rocky white head that had decent retention. This is definately the best thing about this beer. Smell is very bland, I can actually smell the tin from the can. Taste is the same; bland. Mild hops and grass, but the tin flavour outweighs these both. Tastes a lot like an american macro lager. Mouthfeel is smooth and drinakbiloty decent, since its what sells these kinds of beers. Overall, nothing really special about this beer. It looked pretty good with that head on it but everything went downhill from there. I dont think I would recommend this to anyone.

A 500 mL can picked up at the LCBO; BB date June 2012. The last in a brief series of reviews cataloging some of the mostly-interchangeable Euro lagers that take up far too much of the store's shelf space.

Pours a bright, clear golden-yellow colour, with a generous, creamy eggshell-white head about two fingers thick. It slowly seeps away over a period of minutes, leaving a patchy cap and collar. I actually kind of like the smell of this stuff, and considering the style that's a bit of a feat in my eyes...pale barley malts, with some grassiness and sour lemon citrus; nothing out of the ordinary but the nose is a bit firmer than many other offerings from the style.

That's probably the high point, though. The flavour is acceptable but very run-of-the-mill - grainy pale malts, crackers, with a (very) tiny bit of lemony-herbal hops in the finish. Some weird sour notes I can't really put my finger on (edit: maybe it's the ascorbic acid, or maybe it's just more lemony hop). Clean finish; no flavours linger on the palate. Thin-bodied and pretty watery. Average carbonation for the style, with a bit of a bite.

Boring, without a doubt, but it's an EPL - what did you expect? This is a clean-tasting Euro lager with no serious flaws or adjunct notes. Cheaper than most comparable imports, which alone makes it a respectable choice (if you like Euro lagers anyway), but not something I'd ever recommend or seek out.

[Updated Aug. 10 2014]

Another 500 mL can. If a beer is affordable and not very difficult to find, I like to give it at least two or three shots before I decide to completely give up on it (or not). Kaiser Beer is at that point... sure it's cheap, but it also has that green apple flavour unique to cheap lagers, which I happen to not really enjoy very much. Bottom tier as far as imported lagers go - stick with Gosser or Stiegl if you want to try a good Austrian lager.

Final Grade: 2.89, a C grade.

Poured a 500-ml can into a tall pilsner glass.

Appearance - medium-pale yellow with short, foamy head. Plenty of carbonation. Notable lacing.

Smell - crisp aromas of grass and hay, some corn smells beneath the main malty scent.

Taste - neutral beginning gives way to a tinny corn taste (cooked vegetable) and then thin hop extract taste.

Mouthfeel - pretty active brew, a tinny feeling and a wet finish. Not a real pleasure.

Drinkability - there are definitely worse products than this, but I'd pass on having it again.

Stranded in Germany due to the volcano in Iceland. Darn the luck. Went to Salzburg for a couple of days. Had this beer served with lunch.

Beer was served had a golden color with a decent head and decent carbonation. The smell was a bit bland with a hint of grain, nothing bad. The taste was slightly sweet and non offensive. The feel was light and went down pretty easy. The beer went well with the meal, very non offensive. Drinkable but I expected something more German.

Ascorbic acid listed on the contents. Ok, sure.

Pours a typical clear golden colour, but it had a surprisingly frothy head on it like an English ale. Settled as a collar while leaving light lace.

Also typical is the sugary sweet, corn syrup aroma with a grainy background. Definitely fresh-smelling and not skunky, but nothing to stand out at all.

Tastes slightly sweet, like a corn malt. Toasted grain character to it, maybe wheat. Goes dry quickly.

Medium-bodied with a light carbonation. Bitter-ish bite at the front of the tongue and slightly yeasty on the tongue evoking a creaminess. Odd sourness on the finish.

Wasn't bad once I got into it, but smelled and tasted like a random lower-middle end Euro lager at first.

The thick and slow-dissipating white head tastes like a dirty copper penny. The hops are far too strong and account for about 70% of the beer's "taste" on my palatte. The drinkability is not there for this one. It's bitter and tastes very unbalanced, even out of the can (in a glass). The color is not very clear for a Euro PALE Lager. Correct me, but I believe it's supposed to be virtually transparent in this style, not murky as such (opaque). I do NOT recommend this beer. It's flavorful, but not balanced and that is truly where it strikes out for me.

500 ml bottle from Budapest, it seems this one is made by Soproni.

Pours pale golden with large foamy head that dissipates fast, leaving dense, but rather patchy layer over the beer. There is some patchy lacing. Aroma is weak - sweet malty, maybe some bread. Taste starts with mild hoppy bite and turns into sour lemony and soapy sweet maltiness that is rather unpleasant.

Although not extremely bad, there is something missing, tastes typical industrial beer. At least it is not overpriced.

Directly from a can, accompanying home-BBQed sausages and meat-dumplings ("čevapčići").

Appearance is average, presenting as a clear, light-golden yellow lager with small crispy head,

Smelling on sweet-sour malts, dull hops, some fruits.

Tastes like an average pale lager with no specific deviations; almost dully seet, but solidly crisp when chilled.

Mouthfeel is carbonated and refreshing but easily forgetable, with nothing characteristic to be remembered for.

Overall, it's a typical confection-made lager. Good enough to quench a thirst after a meat meal.

A: Clear gold, four finger head of moderate thickness, nice color.
Smell: The aromas definitly give out hints of grass and grain with small hints of hops and malts.
T: Pretty average, getting the malt upfront, then finishes with light hops. Pretty balanced. Nothing crazy, just pils.
M thin, carbonation is low.

500 ml can served cold into a pint glass.

Appearance - CLear, pale golden yellow color, with only a 1/2 finger of head that doesn't linger despite my intentions for a more substantial head. Few bubbles rise to the top.

Smell - Bready aromas and some graininess, but in a freshly baked bread sort of way. I liked the smell of this.

Taste - Grainy barley and mild hops. Grassy and kind of bland but refreshing. SOme sweet seeps through as it warms.

Mouthfeel - Smooth taste, lowish carbonation and medium -light feel.

Overall - Decent lager, rather enjoyed the aroma of this one, and the rest wasn't too bad either.

3.80% ABV. .5L aluminum can acquired at a Picadilly supermarket in Sofia, Bulgaria, and served into a Staropramen pilsner glass in me friend's gaff in Sofia. Reviewed live. Expectations are average.

Served cold. Side-poured with standard vigor as no carbonation issues are anticipated.

No bubble show forms as it's poured.

HEAD: Pours a one-finger wide head of white colour. Subpar thickness and creaminess. Decent complexion and consistency. Retention is average - about 2 minutes. Leaves no lacing as it recedes.

BODY: Clear yellow colour. Clean; no yeast particulate or hop sediment is visible. Average vibrance.

Appears undercarbonated. Unremarkable for the style. I'm pessimistic.

AROMA: Seemingly, there's some adjunct - perhaps corn? Unremarkable barley. Overly sweet malts. Lacks a balancing hop presence.

No alcohol, off-notes, yeast character, or overt hop character is detectable.

Overall, it's an inoffensive aroma of average strength which suggests an imbalanced brew. I'm not looking forward to the first sip.

TASTE/TEXTURE: Some sweet generic malts, fairly clean barley, and...that's about it? Unless you count a buried wisp of unidentifiable adjunct.

No yeast character, hop character, alcohol, or off-notes come through. It's unbalanced, but I wouldn't call it imbalanced. Shallow depth of flavour. Average duration and intensity of flavour.

I can't say I really like it. Lacks intricacy, subtlety, complexity, and nuance.

There's nothing here flavourwise that stands out.

Smooth, wet, fairly clean, medium-bodied, slightly syrupy, overly thick for the style, and unrefreshing. Overcarbonated. This texture doesn't suit the flavour profile or style all that well. But it's not oily, gushed, hot, boozy, astringent, or harsh on the palate. Overall presence on the palate is okay at best.

OVERALL: Downable and unremarkable. A decent budget brew. It's not a poor choice to pick up a can or two of this when in Bulgaria given the price point, but I can't recommend it to friends or trade partners. Too damn boring. I've had far better beers in the style, but few can really change the price of this one - at least in terms of percentage (not real) difference in price.
