Coming in a 330ml slim brown bottle, BB date unknown, served mildly-chilled in a straight imperial pint glass.

A: pours a light golden colour with great clarity, coming with a very thin rimmed white head and mild carbonation.
S: quite sweet, comes the tropical fruitiness and buttery cream, the malts are not so assertive comparatively. Given a good swirl, the candy-ish and buttery notes come more pronounced, on top of interestingly muted aroma of Citra hops.
T: softly spritzy on the entry, the flavour is not at all sweet as the impression goes on the nose; the foretaste is composed of earthy and grassy notes of hops alongside a mixed fruity aroma and a light acidic citrussy edge, while bitterness and pale malt sweetness develop later and render some weight to the lightly spicy and chewy finish.
M&O: softly carbonated, medium-bodied, tasting better than its smell, all in all a hoppy golden Bitter no doubt, but I’d say the Citra hops’ aroma and flavours are not fully extracted or they’re compromised by other yeasty by-products.

A 330ml bottle with a BB of Jan 2015. Acquired recently from Trembling Madness in York. The label describes it as a golden ale hopped solely with Citra (obviously).

Poured into a tulip pint glass. A crystal-clear golden-amber hue with low carbonation. Yields a decent head of white foam that lasts for a minute or two before settling as a thin surface layer. Slight lacing. Aroma of juicy hops with hints of white grape, citrus, tropical fruits and grass/hay. Underpinned by mild caramel malt, a twinge of ale yeast and a whiff of diacetyl in the background.

Tastes of fruity aromatic hops with a mild bitter finish. Notes of grapefruit, peel, citrus, white grape, tropical fruit, grass/hay, faint caramel, ale yeast and subtle stewed hops. A significant diacetyl presence detracts from the flavour. Well-attenuated, followed by a restrained hoppy bitterness upon swallowing. Mouthfeel is smooth and dry, with very light carbonation and a somewhat insubstantial body. Rather textureless - bordering on flat. Slightly astringent, accompanied by an aftertaste of fruity aromatic hops, faint malt and lingering diacetyl.

A decent effort marred by a lack of maturation. So-so looks, while the aroma and flavour are distinctly hoppy and fruity but spoiled by diacetyl. Body could benefit from enhanced carbonation. Tis a pity it isn't bottle conditioned, this would probably have improved the overall character no end. Oh well. Worth trying, just don't expect to be blown away.
